Thedownload, upload and ping test will be performed to the closest server available near yourlocation. This will mean that test will also be influenced by other factors such as quality ofinterconnection of JSC Silknet with Internet backbone. This test is morerelevant to assess real Internet connection quality than ISP sponsored test since thosetypically test against a server within the ISP and do not test real Internet speed.

We believe that it's a conflict of interest when Internet service providers operate their own speed tests. A third party opinion is necessary and the provider shouldn't be allowed anywhere near the process. When providers host their own speed tests they eliminate the variables that you're here to test. Namely the Internet route itself. This test is unbiased, it tests and grades all providers on the same criteria. They want you to think your connection is running perfectly... but is it really?

Do you want to research connection speed for JSC Silknet? TestMy.net's Download Speed Test and Upload Speed Test log connection information to allow users to research real world Internet speed test results. TestMy.net's speed test database stores information on millions of Internet connections. This tool can average connection speed for any Internet provider, country or city in the world. So you can easily average speed test results, compare maximum speeds and research logged results for JSC Silknet.

Other speed tests, especially tests offered by your Internet provider try to eliminate routing factors. This can make your connection appear faster than it really is. Truthfully, do you want to know how fast your connection is within your providers network or do you want to know how fast it is to the locations where the websites you visit are being hosted? TestMy.net is not a best case scenario connection test and will test your Internet under real world conditions. [read more] [hide text]

Hello everyone,

I need some help with making a bridge from silknet to my own router. I have a Silknet device: GM203-7B, with firmware: TKI_1.00_R1374

My own router is TP-Link Archer MR600 (already set as in WiFi mode).

So I should set my 'Cabsat' device in bridge mode as on screenshot, turn off wifi and dhcp on it, connect Cabsat to my Archer MR600 via ethernet cable on LAN connector and then it should work and I should be able to connect through my router?

Or I got something wrong and it's completely different?

Maybe it's a very basic question, but I'm cautious because I don't want to 'brick' my internet completely, as I can't connect directly through ethernet cable to router, to reset settings if something goes wrong.

Many thanks for any advice

This article will present a comparison of the best internet providers in Georgia (country) for home internet services, focusing mainly on the two juggernauts of the industry: Silknet and Magticom. Which provides the best internet connection? How do they differ in terms of customer service, speed, accessibility, and reliability?

As it stands today, the home internet provider industry in Georgia is heavily monopolized by 2 major competitors: Silknet-Geocell and Magticom. There are of course other smaller, more obscure providers here and there, but these two are the most popular and have the biggest nationwide coverage. They are also not too dissimilar from each other as their offered packages are almost identical. Both companies also offer TV and mobile packages that can be combined with home internet as well.

It is worth mentioning that if you are a power user and need high-speed internet and are thinking about purchasing a 100 Mbps package, consider SILK+ because for an extra 20 GEL per month, you get 202 TV channels as a bonus alongside your internet package.

Magti also has 4 packages with various prices and internet speeds. Just like Silknet-Geocell, they also cover almost the whole of Georgia. Installation is free when choosing the Internet + TV Package. The standard pricing is:

When it comes to Magticom, they have a very similar offering as well, although without the ability to bundle mobile phone numbers, which is odd given the fact that Magti was primarily a mobile network provider for many years. The difference between the number of TV channels is minimal (79 to 217 channels including regional and international ones), as is the price for power users looking for a complete package: 100 Mbps plus 202 channels for an extra 22 GEL per month, as opposed to 20 GEL from Silknet.

However, the time and previous booster usage caveat make it confusing to use. Also, the service can be activated till the end of 2021 (though it is highly likely it will be extended through to next year). This is where Silknet comes in with a much better booster, then drops their mic and leaves. This is because they offer a similar service, which will add an extra 20 Mbps to any package of your choosing (except for 100Mbps) for an extra 4 GEL per month, with no strings attached or weirdly timed caveats.

Analysis of the package prices and various other services these companies provide is all well and good, but what is the overall user experience like? Is the coverage any good? What about connectivity issues and customer service?

For any given area, you will find expats online claiming that they have a poor connection in a certain district using one provider, but there will also be users saying the opposite, that it works well and that speeds are as advertised. To make sure your desired district has the best option available, check with the companies themselves by calling. In certain cases, you might be stuck with just one provider in a given area. (This tends to be more common in the suburbs than in the central parts of the city.)

To conclude, the above-mentioned companies have some very compelling reasons to be named the best internet providers in Tbilisi. However, based on the information discussed, it would be right to say that Silknet has edged out a victory over Magticom in the in-home internet provider category. Their package prices are reasonable, along with their coverage and installation fees for new subscribers, and a particularly impressive booster pack that is practically free with its small fee.

Silknet launched 5G services last December in the capital Tbilisi. According to the Georgian Communications Commission, 100Mbps fixed broadband is 136% more expensive the the average in Euorpean countries while mobile internet with 10GB speed and 1795 minutes of talk time is 35% more expensive than the average price in Europe. The study by Strategy Analytics was based on prices for services of the two major Georgian operators, Magticom and Silknet, as these companies own more than 70% of the Georgian telecommunications market.

According to the survey results, low-volume and low-speed services in Georgia are almost similar in cost or cheaper than in Europe and Britain. However, prices for high volume and high-speed services are significantly higher than the European average. High prices for volume and high-speed services are particularly problematic because, according to 2022 data, mobile internet consumption is growing dramatically, reaching an average of 12GB.

Low-volume mobile service packages for individual subscribers in Georgia, such as 5GB and unlimited minutes, are 1% more expensive than in Europe, and the price of 5GB internet and 577 minutes is 23% higher. One of the most consumed optical internet packages for individual subscribers, 25Mbps in Tbilisi, is 5% cheaper than the average price of similar services in European countries, and 17% cheaper in the regions.
