Now, Adobe is extending its reach with a wave of new generative AI features. Adobe's Firefly Image 2 model is an update to its original Firefly AI image generator, which powers Photoshop features like Generative Fill. Adobe claims this new version offers improved image quality, particularly in areas like foliage, skin texture, and facial features. In addition to these enhancements, the Firefly Image 2 model introduces AI-driven editing capabilities that can adjust various photo settings, like depth of field and motion blur. A new "Prompt Guidance" feature also aids users in refining the wording of their text descriptions and automatically completes prompts to boost efficiency.

As it is now i think this over exceeds the purpose of this exchange. But before i part ways ill leave a hint on how to plot the curve in with adobe tools in form of a plotting routine for Photoshop and for illustrator. See:

Adobe is going big on AI, and its AI generator, Firefly, has already been announced for Photoshop as well as Adobe Express. And rather than introducing AI capabilities for the whole suite of apps at once, Adobe seems determined to release them one by one, with Illustrator the latest in line for an AI makeover.

As a print designer and illustrator, color palettes are one of the most important elements of a successful design. Making sure the palette has enough contrast and speaks to the theme is always on my mind when creating new work.

Another feature is command line barcode generation. Basically, if you need to automate your barcodes, you can use any automation software to pass the codes as command line parameters to the barcode generator and get the output for further processing. This is impossible with a plugin that is designed to fit the user interface of your vector graphics editor.

Many people use Illustrator for designing book covers, blisters or packaging. In most cases barcodes have to be added to the artwork. There are two ways to create barcodes in Illustrator: You can use an integrated solution, like a barcode extension or plug-inor you can use an external barcode generator to create the code and then import it into Illustrator. In this tutorial we look at the different options for adding a barcode to your artwork.

The Softmatic barcode extensions for InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop are available on the Adobe Exchange and from the Softmatic online store. Adobe Illustrator - Using a barcode generatorA stand-alone barcode generator is preferable if you use an older Creative Suite version of AI (CS3, CS4, CS5, CS6 etc.) that doesn't support the plug-in.

Our recommendation here is Softmatic BarcodePlus V5, download here (macOS 10.15 or higher, pre 10.15: here, Windows 10 here). The app creates all common retail barcodes, like EAN, UPC or ISBN and will save codes as EPS/PDF and in various raster formats. In addition BarcodePlus V5 supports a wide varietybarcodes for warehousing, pharmaceuticals and 2D symbologies like QR, Aztec or PDF417.Barcodes in Adobe Illustrator - Best PracticesWhen working with barcodes in Illustrator, please consider the following best practices:

  • Before creating the barcode, talk to your print shop about the requirements with regard to bar width reduction.

    Reasonable values are:
    • Offset printing: 1-2%
    • Laser printing: 1-2%
    • Thermo-, thermotransfer printing: 0%
    • Inkjet printing: Plain paper - 5%, Inkjet paper - 1-2%
    • Pad printing: up to 10%

  • The Softmatic generators and extensions create barcodes in pure black (CMYK: 0 0 0 100). Per default, Illustrator will convert pure blacks into so called "Rich Blacks" (typically CMYK: 50 50 50 100) for export. This can cause issues with misaglined printing plates, resulting in bars that look fuzzy or have a color halo. For best results, set Preferences > Appearance of Black to "Output all blacks accurately".
  • Place the barcode artwork on a separate layer. Lock the layer against accidental changes. A separate layer can also be useful to create a barcode template, for example when you have QR codes with URLs or email addresses that don't change often.
  • Leave space of at least 5mm around the barcode. This space is off limits for other artwork.
  • Never modify the actual barcode within Illustrator. Don't scale it, don't stretch it, don't change the fill or stroke, don't change the text. If the size is not right, discard the code and create a new one.
  • If at all possible, make a test scan of the barcode before going into production. A simple CCD hand held barcode scanner will not cost more than about $50. That's a good investment if you have to create barcodes regularly. Alternatively, use a barcode app with your smartphone, see next section.
  • For detailed information about the placement rules for Bookland / ISBN codes on book covers, see here.
Verifying and scanning barcodes We recommend test scanning or verifying barcodes before going into production. Current smartphones will be able to detect and scan barcodes with the built-in camera.

Creative software giant Adobe has been walking a bit of a tightrope when it comes to generative AI: while it has embraced the technology to release a host of new features for its users, such as the well-received Generative Fill in Photoshop and Firefly text-to-image generator (both unveiled in spring 2023), it has faced criticism from some contributors to its Adobe Stock image service, who say the company took advantage of its permissive terms-of-service to allow it to train its proprietary AI models on their work without advance knowledge or direct compensation.

So what exactly is Adobe Firefly right now and how does it compare to the best AI art generators? We've gathered everything you need to know about Adobe's AI milestone in this guide, which you can navigate using the shortcuts on the left.

The most obvious parallel to AI art generators like Midjourney, Dall-E, and Stable Diffusion is the text-to-image user interface. Like its rivals, the Firefly beta will let you type a request into a box (for example, "side profile face and ocean double exposure portrait") and it'll produce an AI-generated example.

It'll be a similar story with new AI text effects in the likes of Illustrator. For example, you'll be able to type a specific prompt like 'many fireflies in the night, bokeh light' and the AI generator will cook up a font matching that particular description. The possibilities for marketing, social media, and more are huge, particularly for those with no background in digital art.

Similarly, Adobe says that one of the broader goals of its Content Authenticity Initiative (an initiative that includes members like Getty and Microsoft) is the creation of a universal 'Do Not Train' content credentials tag for images, which would allow artists to exclude their creations from being part of an AI image generators training. Again, while this is a promising development, it's currently only at the "goal" stage.

Of course, none of this is new, and the likes of Midjourney and Stable Diffusion have stolen a march on Adobe in getting AI art generators out into the wild. It also remains to be seen how much Adobe's understandable attempts to make Firefly ethical (by restricting its training data) will impact its overall usefulness and versatility.

Something fun that I have been exploring has been to use AI art generators to create complex, beautiful, and fun coloring pages. I've used different prompts that include the words "children's coloring book page illustration" and "black and white, white background." I also sometimes have added the term "zentangles" to the description. Prompts like "intricate, fantasy, whimsical, and detailed" are also good to test out. Here are some city coloring pages made in Adobe Firefly:

I've found that different AI art generators produce results of differing quality and styles. Sometimes the lines can be rough and random. Things like tails and feet can appear in unexpected places! These castle pages below were generated using the Bing Image Creator. You can see the stars have some unusual shapes!

Thanks for exploring and sharing more AI in education possibilities. I like your idea of having the class suggest design ideas and the teacher putting them into an AI generator for setting up a coloring template.

I've had good luck doing this with Adobe Firefly and Bing Image Creator, both gave free options. If you have an Ai generator that you already use go head and try it. I find the quality of results is constantly improving. Let me know if you discover another one that works great making the coloring pages

Ever since the release of Bing AI and Google Bard, Microsoft and Google have been trying to one-up each other. That competition seemed to briefly tip in favor of Bing after the Head of Engineering and Product for Bing, Jordi Ribas, announced Bing and Edge would get an image generator. Now Google is leveling the playing field by giving Bard its own text-to-image tool.

Elevate your creations with the revolutionary Text to Image AI image generator, revolutionizing the way you convert simple text into visually captivating artwork. Unleash your imagination and craft breathtaking, AI-generated masterpieces that are bound to captivate and inspire your audience.

To try out all the fun new features that were announced in Adobe Max 2023, including the Adobe Illustrator AI generator, the first thing you need to do is update Adobe Illustrator. Open up the Adobe Creative Cloud app and make sure you're signed in.
