Before you can add a co-author to a commit, you must know the appropriate email to use for each co-author. For the co-author's commit to count as a contribution, you must use the email associated with their account on GitHub.com.

If a person chooses to keep their email address private, you should use their GitHub-provided no-reply email to protect their privacy. Otherwise, the co-author's email will be available to the public in the commit message. If you want to keep your email private, you can choose to use a GitHub-provided no-reply email for Git operations and ask other co-authors to list your no-reply email in commit trailers.

Tip: If you're using a text editor on the command line to type your commit message, ensure there are two newlines between the end of your commit description and the Co-authored-by: commit trailer.

GitHub Desktop uses your local Git configuration settings and provides the option to configure some of these settings, such as the global author information and the default branch that is used when creating a new repository.

GitHub Desktop allows you to set the name and email address you would like associated with the commits you make in your repositories. If your name and email address have already been set in the global Git configuration for your computer, GitHub Desktop will detect and use those values. GitHub Desktop also allows you to set a different name and email address for an individual repository. This is useful when you need to use a separate work email address for a specific repository.

If the email address that has been set in your Git configuration does not match an email address associated with the GitHub account you are currently logged in to, GitHub Desktop will show a warning prior to committing.

GitHub Desktop also allows you to change the default branch name that you would like to use when creating new repositories. By default, GitHub Desktop uses main as the default branch name in any new repositories you create.

Configuring your global author information in GitHub Desktop will update the name and email address in your global Git configuration. This will be the default name and email address for all new local repositories you create in GitHub Desktop.

In the "Email" dropdown menu, select the email address you would like to use for your commits. You can select an email address associated with your GitHub account, or select "Other" and enter another email address.

You can change the name and email address used to author commits in a specific repository. This local Git configuration will override your global Git configuration settings for this one repository only.

There's just no panel for that.
As @Pšenda already suggested, you can add metadata by editing the Designer (or Publisher) doc via Photo's Metadata panel. They will be saved with the document, and partially also exported.

It is "exactly" the application for "creating and manipulating with metadata", much like any other application that creates documents.
Heck, even primitive built-in MacOS apps like TextEdit and Preview could create and partially manipulate metadata since years.

Do you mean like for Camera data, IPTC, GPS and other specific items? So for this type of metadata I would definitely see applications other than ADesigner.
I personally do not even consider basic items such as the author and title of a document as "metadata" (probably that is why they are called Fields in APublisher and not Metadata as in APhoto).
P.S. It is probably clear that in ADesigner there should be at least what is in APublisher.

Essentially it's about XMP which is now a de iure standard and is finally at least partially supported by the Affinity document format.

As far as I can tell, there is no technical limitation to add the Metadata panel to any of the other Affinity apps, or even extend the number of supported fields.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extensible_Metadata_Platform#Embedding

So, if you have Photo & Designer, in Publisher you can at least freely switch to the Photo Persona to add any available metadata you need.
In Designer use File > Edit In Photo, then switch back.
They will be partially retained on PDF export (author, title, subject only), and fully on bitmap and EPS export.

To add all metadata an export format can bear, get e.g. the free Bridge from Schmadobe.
Some 3rd party apps like NeoFinder (and its Windows counterpart, forgot its name) support XMP sidecars for tagging Affinity apps:

Have just been trying the Photo Editor and haven't found where to add the IPTC range of data. Makes the Photo and it sounds like the rest of the editors rather unusable for any professional work. Sad as otherwise would be useful software.

Yes, have looked at the Metadata panel popup menue. It only shows a limited amount of the metadata not all of it. It doesn't allow any changes. It doesn't give access to the IPTC which is often crucial for use. Need to be able to edit, add to IPTC as part of Metadata. Wont of course be added within a raw file but into any other secondary format such as TIFF or JPG.

Of course it does. Fill in the fields and make sure that Embed Metadata is enabled in your Export preset.
If the option is not present, then the export format doesn't support metadata.
Doesn't work well on PDF files, unfortunately.

Even going through all the menues it only shows a bit of the IPTC. OK maybe more going into the IPTC raw data can get more but virtually unusable. The sort of times want this is have a photo with GPS imbeded in it so want to find location it was taken. Write some notes about the photo, person, location etc. Maybe some time latter writting an article want to use some photos in it and quick check which ones are right so want a quick easy IPTC and maybe Metadata to look at. Can use other software of course, but has wondered if could use Affinity to do everything. Just too fiddly and some just not (yet) possible.

For some arbitrary reason "because reason", the Location panel is available in the Develop persona only. But you should be able to edit locations nonetheless, simply disable all other develop functions before you click Apply.
