SkyBoxLabs Inc. is a Canadian video game developer located in Burnaby, British Columbia. Founded in 2011 by Derek MacNeil, Shyang Kong and Steven Silvester formerly from EA Vancouver,[2] they are mostly known for their work with Xbox Game Studios on the Halo, Age of Empires and Minecraft franchises.

SkyBox Labs co-founders, Derek MacNeil, Shyang Kong and Steven Silvester worked together at EA Vancouver from 2004 to 2010 on the FIFA, Need for Speed, NBA Live and NHL franchises, where MacNeil was development director while Kong was senior producer and Silvester technical director, when they decided to set up an independent studio in Burnaby, Vancouver.[3][4]

Initially being a contract-based studio, in the year of its founding SkyBox Labs signed an agreement with publisher Microsoft Studios (late renamed to Xbox Game Studios), which liked the studio and its culture, being a partner publisher of SkyBox, although not owning them.[3]

Midway through the development of the game, SkyBox Labs was contracted to produce some low-fidelity gameplay prototypes for Relentless Software's title, Kinect Nat Geo TV, which was developed for Xbox 360 with Kinect. None of the prototypes featured in the final product. It was published by Microsoft Studios and released on September 18, 2012. It received mostly positive reviews, scoring 78 out of 100 on review aggregator site Metacritic.[5]

On June 17, 2014, EA Sports UFC was a collaboration between EA Canada and SkyBox Games. It was the first UFC game after THQ lost the license and it was sold to Electronic Arts. Final product received mixed, but mostly positive reviews, with Xbox One version scoring 71 out of 100 on Metacritic[7] and PlayStation 4 version scoring 69 out of 100.[8]

Yum I use Oculus Rift S. I do not understand how to provide the application with the path to the files to view. I don't have a local storage tab. And the tab with the WI FI icon doesn't display the content. How do I access files on my PC?

When you first launch into SKYBOX, click "All files" and then click "Directories" in the main tab.

There you could find the path which stores your videos.

You don't have to put videos in Oculus\Software\skybox-studio-skybox-vr-video-player\SourceVRPlayer\SKYBOX for SKYBOX to show the files.

Skybox Studio is a full-featured editor extension that allows you to create unique and versatile static skyboxes for all types of environments from scratch with no additional tools required. It is aimed at artists and does not require any coding skills.

The simplistic and intuitive editor interface makes it easy to work with, while you can always preview your results in real time. Skybox Studio works based on textures. While textures for all aspects of and effects of the skybox come with the asset, you can use your own textures to achieve the desired look. The extensive manual helps you understand what kind of texture is required for each individual effect. With this there are virtually no limits to the artistic control, except your creativity

Shareable Project Files

Skybox Studio works with its own project files that you can share with the community. Those project files make it easy to reproduce results or continue editing where others have left off.

Background Terrains

When using ready made skyboxes with terrain in the background we often find ourselves having to adjust our scene to match the skybox. With Skybox studio you can adjust the background terrain to fit your scene instead or choose not to have any background terrain. This gives you additional artistic control and can greatly enhance the look and feel of your scene.

Planets and Nebulae

Apart from atmospheric skyboxes, Skybox Studio allows the creation of skyboxes for space environments, rendering planets with or without rings, nebulae and multiple suns. The final result remains a static skybox, so that your scene remains clear of any additional objects.

Volumetric Clouds

Skybox Studio features volumetric clouds based on tileable noise textures. While it comes with a collection of such textures, you are free to use your own, to achieve the desired results. Cutout, softness and colors of the clouds are fully controllable and can be masked out to achieve a unique natural look. A total of three possible cloud layers allow you to use multiple types of clouds in the same skybox.

I first import the glb file into Sandbox, and then delete the skybox and env maps on the left side. The exported Babylon file does not contain anything about the environment, but when I import the Babylon file into the scene, the environment maps I have already deleted will be loaded. I am not sure where the white environment file comes from, but I have already deleted it

I first import the glb file into sandbox, then delete skybox and everything related to env from the list on the left. Then, I close the Environment texture (IBL) button on the scene tab. In theory, the exported babylon file does not contain any materials and textures from sandbox (I just want to use it to convert the format), but the exported babylon file has an extra texture called studio. env

The firm launched its first US studio in May 2022, Jackalope Games, led by Jack Emmert, followed by another US studio opening in July, Jar of Sparks, led by former Halo Infinite head of design Jerry Hook.
