But thanks to our analysis of more than 1 million videos shared on YouTube, we can offer a little more concrete guidance on at least one of those factors: the best time to post on YouTube.
Generally speaking, views are lower earlier in the mornings on weekdays, picking up during midmornings, lunch breaks, and late afternoon and evening. There are also a few late-night hot zones, like 11 p.m. on Monday and Thursday. YouTube video views tend to pick up as the week wears on, peaking on Fridays before dropping off over the weekend.
The worst times to post on YouTube on weekdays and weekends are generally between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m. when viewers are asleep. There are a couple of other cold spots to be aware of, though: we found that videos posted between 4 a.m. and 5 a.m. on Mondays, 8 a.m. on Saturdays, and 9 p.m. on Sundays tend to get the least views.
Of all the native social media analytics tools, YouTube Studio is one of the best. Not only does it offer you a wealth of stats and numbers, but it also does an excellent job of helping you understand and take action from all those metrics.
But when it comes to the best time for you to post on YouTube, the most helpful analytics segment is When your viewers are on YouTube. To find this graph, scroll down a bit on the Audience tab.
1. Optimize your channel: Make sure you have unique, high-quality channel art (a profile picture, banner image, and video watermark), write a comprehensive channel description, and create a video spotlight or trailer for your channel.
3. Tap into YouTube SEO: YouTube is owned by Google, and its search algorithm works similarly. Conduct keyword research with a search engine optimization (SEO) tool, and make sure you use those keywords in your channel description, video title, and video description.
4. Create thumbnails that stop the scroll: Thumbnails can make or break the success of your YouTube video. Studies have shown that YouTube creators with thumbnails that feature faces and emotions, are colorful, and contain branding or text generally perform better.
7. Start a series: Give your audience a reason to keep coming back to your channel. Build successful videos out into a series, and, if it makes sense for your audience, deliver the next installment at regular intervals.
10. Engage with your audience: Replying to and liking viewer comments is table stakes. Go the extra mile and screenshot their comments to feature in videos, encourage discussion by asking questions in your scripts, and moderate your comments to keep your community safe and healthy.

In a survey conducted by Wyzowl, 93% of marketers said that videos are an integral element in their marketing strategies and surpassed images as the most valuable resource for achieving marketing goals. The majority of the customers surveyed also said that videos are more effective in convincing them to buy a product.
For example, TikTok was initially popular for its entertaining dancing and lip-syncing videos but it transformed into a content marketing tool when brands, celebrities and influencers started to use it to promote their products and services.
More websites and platforms are expected to follow as short-form videos continue to dominate social media. Even small business owners are now using short-form videos to reach a wider audience with creative and relatable content.
Short-form videos are twice as shareable compared to other types of content, particularly since the messaging is condensed and easily understandable. If you consistently create engaging short-form videos, it can increase the likelihood of your viewers staying longer on your official channels to watch content, which can increase your conversion rate as well as your SEO ranking.
You can also create different kinds of content with short-form videos such as FAQS, product teasers and explainer videos. Short-form videos can be an avenue of visual storytelling so that you can create an authentic and relatable piece of content that will engage your viewers.
Storytelling gives your content depth while conveying your brand message. It can give you a competitive advantage over promotional content on social media because the storytelling aspect of your short-form video content can spark an emotional connection with your audience.
Developing a deeper connection with the audience makes your brand trustworthy and stand out from the competition. Your audience is more likely to develop brand loyalty if you build an authentic relationship with them.
Incorporating powerful storytelling into your short-form videos humanises your brand, allowing you to foster a personal connection with your audience. Engaging and compelling stories drive growth for your business because they create long-lasting impressions and attract ideal customers to your brand.
For example, a three-act structure that starts with setting the story and characters, then introducing conflict (or pain points) before reaching the resolution. This structure is useful if you want the video to be more relatable and personal.
Another way to get ideas for your frameworks is by looking into structures that worked for previous content. For example, TikTok shared six storytelling frameworks that they deem helpful for businesses on the platform, such as the elevator pitch and the step-by-step guide.
It seems the YouTube Data API v3 is missing the functionality to check whether a video id is a short. Another way to check whether it is a short is by checking the response code of the following public url: :videoId (303 = regular video, 200 = short), but this could easily result in ratelimits and if used on a worker node like Cloudflare workers, Google will flag the request as suspicious.
I was also looking for answers to this question and stumbled upon this post. Another workaround for the lack of direct API functionality would be to use duration from 'contentDetails.duration.' As of this comment, shorts are limited to 60 seconds and, if they are in the right format, they'll be converted to shorts automatically. Not pretty, but it should get the job done since the likelihood of someone uploading a video in the wrong format at that duration is pretty low.
As of August 18, the YouTube algorithm will consider recent long-form videos when recommending content to YouTube Shorts viewers. So instead of Shorts having no relationship with long-form videos, you could potentially use shorter videos to get views on longer YouTube content.
For example, let's say a viewer watches one of your Shorts with a whopping 50,000 views. Instead of that viewer never exploring your channel, YouTube will notice that they watched one of your Shorts and potentially recommend a longer video for them to watch (from your channel).
For months, creators complained that their viral Shorts had no positive effect on long-form videos. They were no additional views, no extra subscribers, and no channel growth overall. If there was a boost, it was minuscule.
Clearing your watch history will allow you to reset the algorithm and break the cycle of repetitive Shorts. The platform uses your watch history to tailor recommendations. Clear the history to prompt a reset and minimize the chances of encountering the same content repeatedly.
