IsIt Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? is a Japanese light novel series written by Fujino Ōmori and illustrated by Suzuhito Yasuda. The story follows the exploits of Bell Cranel, a 14-year-old solo adventurer under the goddess Hestia. As the only member of the Hestia Familia, he works hard every day in the dungeon to make ends meet while seeking to improve himself. He looks up to Ais Wallenstein, a famous and powerful swordswoman who once saved his life, and with whom he fell in love. He is unaware that several other girls, deities and mortals alike, also develop affections towards him; most notably Hestia herself, as he also gains allies and improves himself with each new challenge he faces.

SB Creative has published the light novels since January 15, 2013 under their GA Bunko imprint.[1] As of September 15, 2023, nineteen volumes have been published.[2] The series has estimated sales of over 1,500,000 copies.[3] Yen Press has licensed the series in North America and released the first volume under the Yen On imprint in December 2014.[4][5] The light novel ranked at No. 4 in 2014 in Takarajimasha's annual light novel guide book Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi!.[6]

Adding the blacksmith Welf, Bell and the others advance to the middle floors. However, due to the actions of another party, they are stranded in the dungeon. To save Bell, Hestia enters the dungeon with the Level 4 former adventurer Ryuu, the God Hermes, but..."-Monster Rex!?"

Bell's other family. Deepening bonds. However, the place Bell wandered into while following Mikoto was the Entertainment District, the "City of Night" that is operated by the Ishtar Familia. In that place, the boy encounters the girl from the Far East, Haruhime.

Bell, who has reached the new area in the dungeon known as the Large Tree Labryinth, meets the dragon girl Wiene. Able to speak and hunted by both Humans and monsters, he decides to protect the lonely girl.

The creeping hands of the ruthless hunters, the unoverturnable friction between Humans and monsters, and the true head of the Guild makes his move. The city is thrown into turbulence over a single dragon girl.

"A migration of armed Monsters has been confirmed! The Guild will issue a subjugation order!!"The die had been thrown by out of control Xenos. The trigger was the violent hunters, the cost a disturbance that involved all Familia in the city. The boy was forced to come to a difficult decision in the turbulent Orario.

Toyed with by harshness she'd never experienced before, Ryuu, between life and death, sees scenes from the past.

The Hostess of Fertility, the Sword Princess, and also the Freya Familia, a great riot that will engulf all of these will unfold!

The Familia Chronicle light novels are a series of side stories that go more in-depth on characters that do not get as much attention in the main storylines of Danmachi and Sword Oratoria.

The party decides to conclude their expedition to restock on weapons and armor, but not without taking out a couple of Minotaurs in their way. On the way, Aiz saves a certain white-haired boy from being attacked. She reaches out in concern but he runs away from her before they have a chance to talk.

While the character design and illustrations for the original DanMachi series were done by Yasuda Suzuhito, the illustrations for Sword Oratoria were done by Kiyotaka Haimura, the same illustrator the A Certain Magical Index light novels. The character designs are treated to fit the world of DanMachi/Sword Oratoria with each individual having distinct characteristics fitting their race/profile, like elves, demigods, and humans.

Is it wrong to pick up girls in dungeon? is written by Fujino Omori with illustrations by Suzuhito Yasuda. In the anime community it is more widely known as Danmachi, the beginning of the Japanese title is danmachi so it just carried over to the western population too. There are currently 9 volumes out in Japan with 4 currently translated in English with the 5th one coming out in April. It also has a 13 episode anime that aired last year that I think covers up to volume 5 or 6 of the light novel. This also has a manga and multiple spin-offs as well. So needless to say, this a very popular story and for a good reason.

The novel starts out kind of like this post started out. After the male MC, named Bell Cranel, runs out of the dungeon with his proverbial tail between his legs, he meets up with a secretary named Eina at guild headquarters where he exchanges shards that he gets from killing monsters. For an adventurer like Bell, shards can be turned into the guild for money. The bigger the shard or multiple shards, the higher the payout. The woman he fell in love with in the dungeon is named Aiz Wallenstein, She is a member of the Loki Familia. She is the best swords-woman in the city. Big hurdle to get her to notice you right? For a more in depth introduction to this light novel check out Ground Level: Danmachi volume 1 that I published a week or so ago.

Fujino Omori, author of DanMachi (also known as Familia Myth and Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?) surpassed the record long held by Katanagatari author Nisio Isin for the most light novels consecutively published in a single series.

Isin published one light novel of his series Katanagatari every month from Jan. to Dec. in 2007, holding the record for 16 years before being dethroned this month by Omori. The latter author has now published 13 light novels in his DanMachi series for 13 consecutive months, from October 2022's publication of Astrea Record, Vol. 1 Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? Tales of Heroes to the publication of Familia Myth: Episode Lyu 2 on Oct. 14, 2023.

The very first DanMachi light novel was published in 2013. Since then, the DanMachi series has been adapted into three different manga series, five anime seasons, two mobile games and a movie. As of this writing, 19 volumes of the light novel series have been released, along with 13 volumes of the spin-off light novel series Sword Oratoria, which has also received its own anime adaptation. The most recent spin-off light novel series, Familia Chronicle, currently has three volumes.

In celebration of his achievement, Omori tweeted a message translated as: "Thanks to all of you, we were able to publish consecutively for 13 months. I think I heard that the record for consecutive monthly publications for a single light novel series was 12 months, so I tried challenging it, but I was completely lost by the end! To all the related staff and readers, thank you so very much!!! #DanMachi10thAnniversary #DanMachi #danmachi

While Omori now holds the record for the most light novels published consecutively in a single series, the record for the most light novels published consecutively over several series is currently held by Kazuma Kamachi at 28 consecutive publications. Kamachi is the author of The Unexplored Summon://Blood-Sign, A Certain Magical Index, Saikyou wo Kojiraseta Level Counter Stop Kenseijo Beatrice no Jakuten Sono Na wa "Buu Buu", Apocalypse Witch and most recently, A Certain Dark Side ITEM.

In an interview with Comic Natalie, Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? (henceforth DanMachi) light novel author Fujino Ōmori discussed the anime-original film Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?: Arrow of the Orion and how it fits into the Damachi timeline. Ōmori wrote the screenplay for the film and clarified that it would be set between seasons 1 and 2 of the anime (or volumes 5 and 6 of the light novel). However, novel readers may note that there are continuity differences between the anime and novels.
