Winkey+R is probably the most used command on my computer. I can start any program from it without leaving the mouse. Great little feature. I know I can pull up the calculator, notepad and other little accessories with it faster than someone with a mouse can. But then again I also type about 100 words a minute as well.
I stupidly clicked the button, and it appeared to switch to a new version of notepad. At least, the offer to launch the new version disappeared.
I eventually ended up in a nightmare of installing the Microsoft Store notepad (which seemed to be "new version" that was being offered).
It installed but I think it trashed my old c:\windows\system32\notepad.exe installation.
After spending several wasted hours reading up on the errors and trying to debug it, uninstalling the notepad store app, checking all my disks (they are good), reinstalling some 2013 C++ redistributables, and otherwise wasting my time, I still get the error above. My code has been working for many months until this notepad headache started.
In visual studio, this is the full error. I no longer have a side-by-side installation of notepad, to the best of my knowledge. I could not find anything in the "application event log" (was I looking in the right place?). And I don't know how to use the sxstrace.exe tool. The problem showed up when I stupidly clicked the LAUNCH button offer of the new notepad. Something in that process screwed up the "side-by-side" installation, whatever that is.
They fixed it in KB3138367 and provided a new installer that would ensure both x86 and x64 versions were installed. I installed that one, reinstalled the latest notepad app from the MS store, and the issue went away for a few hours. The link to that KB version is below.
Sure, I no longer edit my AUTOEXEC.BAT file in it - mainly because it was a DOS loader that doesn't exist in Windows today. Still, I find Notepad important for quickly taking notes. If for some reason, I didn't launch Microsoft Word but want to jot down some thoughts or meeting notes, I like to pull up Notepad, which still launches more quickly than any other app on my Windows 11 system. Even if I have five or more Notepad windows open, the load on Windows 11 is minimal. That might not be the case with Word or another word processor app.
There's also a dark theme setting, which is like a throwback to the original DOS interface, and CRT-screen programming platforms. I still prefer the light mode, which I think better reflects the notepad theme. I mean, look at the app icon, it's a notepad, not a computer screen.
Notepad is a simpler app from a simpler time, which is probably why I'm so glad it's still part of the ever-changing Windows platform. Microsoft has done a lot in Windows 11 to refresh the aging OS, including shifting the start menu and taskbar to the middle. It's overhauled all the windows, app icons, and even File Manager.
Hello Devan, yes we are running the linux version of the workspace app on thin clients, we couldn't replicate this on a windows machine but could replicate the same problem on a dedicated linux laptop.
..We also have the issue that the mouse cursor/iBeam (the typical thext marker type of cursor) is getting white/transperent/disappear in search fields from browser, windows searchbox and in text fields/main window of MS Office apps like Outlook. Primarly when there should be the "iBeam" Cursor. CVAD 2303 on XenServer 8.2 LTSR CU1 with NVIDIA vGPU profiles (A16/A40), different images have the same issue (Win10/WinServer22). Endpoints are Dell TC3000 Thin Clients (CWA for Linux, 2209, 2302, 2305) and it also occurs for example when having CWA for Windows (latest, 2305) in fullscreen mode (in window mode it doesn't occur with the CWA for Windows). At first we thought it is a Linux problem only, but during the tests we now see it too on Windows. Not really sure about the root cause. We tried to upgrade to CVAD 2305 on VDA side, but we have some issues with that (ctxuvi errors and so on), so that we stay for the moment with CVAD 2303 on the VDA. Not opend a Citrix Case until now, that would be the next step.
I am not great with VBA and hoping someone can help. I have written a payroll program that runs in Excel. Everything was fine until I upgraded to windows 11 and ended up with a new version of Notepad. I've uninstalled the new Notepad and tracked down the old version in the Windows\System32 directory. The following code is used to generate the journal entries for import into Sage50. The old code which worked fine until Win11 is:
I am not a VBA expert but I too copy the data from excel and paste the data to notepad with the help of a code shared online. I can share the code which works for me but can't explain more. Edit the code as per your sheet name, define the varialbes and check it out. Hope it helps.
I am using windows 10. I have created this app with the above lines included and it is compatible in all versions of excel. Windows 11 no idea. I have used the same code in more than 20 applications and it has never given me any problem.
Postable windows have a Post button to post the window. Clicking on thePost button hides the window and adds its controls to a new tab in thenotepad area. Posting windows allows you to have several windows active atthe same time without cluttering the screen. When a window is posted, itsPost button turns to an UnPost button that, when clicked, removesthe posted window from the Notepad area and displays the window in itsown window. Figure 1.5 shows an example of awindow with a Post button and also shows the same window when it isposted to the notepad area.
