DayZ is a multiplayer-only survival video game developed and published by Bohemia Interactive. It is the standalone game based on the mod of the same name for Arma 2. Following a five-year-long early access period for Windows, the game was officially released in December 2018, and was released for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in 2019.
DayZ began development in 2012 when the mod's creator, Dean Hall, joined Bohemia Interactive to commence work on the standalone version of the game. The development has been focused on altering the engine to suit the game's needs, developing a working client-server architecture, and introducing new features like diseases and a better inventory system. The game sold over three million copies during its early access phase.
Following the huge successes of the DayZ mod, Dean Hall announced in a August 2012 development blog that DayZ would begin development as a standalone game, in conjunction with Bohemia Interactive and himself as project lead.[11] He said that the game needed to be released before the end of the year "in order to achieve what we have to do",[12] and that he wanted an initial release around November 2012.[13] The game will be running on a branch of the Take On Helicopters engine (part of the Real Virtuality engine), and the main areas of developmental focus would be "critical issues", such as bug fixing, hacking, and security.[14]
Following the troubled release of similar game The War Z, Hall stated in a post on Reddit that the "whole 'saga' of the development made me seriously question if I wanted to be involved in the industry" and that he had considered leaving the DayZ standalone project. [21] The game missed its original 2012 release date, with a development update coming in January 2013 saying that the game was not yet released because the developers "had the chance to go from making a game that was just the mod improved slightly... to actually redeveloping the engine and making the game the way we all dreamed it could be."[22] The release date was rescheduled and an internal closed test began on the game, with it being announced that public testing would not be taking place until the server architecture was finalized.[23][24]
i just played about an hour of a deathmatch server and man do i love it. You can actually play some pvp just for fun without having anything to risk. The fact that it took mod support THIS LONG too come out is crazy. In my opinion since the Arma 2 mod had modded servers we should have had them on standalone at least within the first year. This is great tho and feels like the biggest update theyve ever done too the game. real question will be if its too little too late or will mods bring back the player base
I don't know if this has been asked or answered before but I thought it was a pretty valid question. With the addition of character customisation in the standalone, through acquired gear, I was wondering how heroes and bandits are going to be distinguished from the regular survivors. Any information regarding this would be much appreciated.
This problem has been around for about a year and a half.
with optimization of new drivers for Dayz
it's a pity that they didn't fix it for in so much time
and for the new 6000 series video cards everything will be the same
and it's sad - you buy such a video card for a lot of money
for dayz and you see 45-50 fps in the game
Driver 20.4.2, is undoubtedly the best old driver so far, and I'm wondering, as far as more fps the current new driver would give in the dayz, if the new current driver worked well - as a rule, new drivers should work much better than the old ones and should give more fps, than the old drivers - I want to believe, what if would new current driver worked well, he would showed still more fps, than 20.4.2 by 20-30%, what do you think?
I don't get this dayz is a very popular game and should have full support!!!! Just Purchased a 6700 Xt and thought it would be a upgrade from my gtx 1080, yes on paper it is but in my favorite game no way. Gtx 1080 1080p high settings 125ish fps my new 6700 xt on poor settings I get 45/55 fps. Sad!!!!
I was a huge ass fan of the Origins mod and Taviana back in the ArmA 2 mod dayz. so I was wondering if anyone knows if any work is being done on it?
Seen a Taviana test server on DZSALauncher forever but like no news at all.
I'm having problems with DayZ Standalone game, which is updated on a regular basis. I also run ESS with firewall in interactive mode. Everytime DayZ standalone is updated and I start the game, the game hangs when I go to server list. The problem is, I can't even shut it down, as the windows cursor changes to game cursor when my mouse is not over the taskbar. So the only solution is to shutdown and restart my PC.
I deleted them all, started the game and the window opened that dayz.exe wants to communicate as it should. I allowed it. Then I also added dayz.exe to the list of applications excluded from check of modification detection.
Glad to see I'm not the only one. Exact same issue. It may have something to do with BattleEye, the anticheat the game uses, and their relationship with ESET's rules. For some reason, unlike most games which remain secured by the ruleset DayZ has problems every update like this. At least recently. It's either that Eset has changed functionality or DayZ standalone has.
Plenty of people who were veterans of the original DayZ mod had been wondering whether the magic of the original experience had survived the making of a standalone game. I'm pleased to report that not only has it survived, but there's new magic, too. Rocket and his team know what they are doing, and the changes they've made have created some tense and terrible moments in this new game. The realism it strives for is simultaneously unreal and dark, and creates some of the most awkward and sinister roleplay situations I've experienced in any game.

Bohemia released DayZ's standalone version through Steam Early Access last December. By mid-January, it crossed the 1 million sales threshold, a move that Hall characterized as "a 'shots fired' moment for those in the traditional publishing model, and their investors."
It's not very often that a mod comes along that is special enough to outshine the game that the fan creation is an extension of. The survival-horror Arma 2 mod, DayZ, proved early on that it was out to do more than capitalize on the popularity of zombies in mainstream entertainment. PC gamers have embraced the mod for the terrifying, slow-paced survival challenge that it is and loads of them are ready to start shelling out money for the standalone version of the game whether it's ready or not.
The playable alpha for DayZ's standalone release launched around the new year after suffering through months of delays and bad press surrounding the development. No number of setbacks (or warnings from the creator) were enough to scare consumers away from early access to the game's alpha though. Sales of the work-in-progress version of DayZ skyrocketed as soon as it hit the Steam store. Sales reached the one million unit milestone within just a few weeks and according to the latest numbers they have continued to climb despite the buzz surrounding its early access simmering down.
The game's creator, Dean Hall, spoke about DayZ at EGX Rezzed 2014 and revealed that the standalone package has already sold more than 1.7 million copies. Add that to the 2 million+ copies of the original mod that have been downloaded and you've got a pretty serious community of supporters for the game.
