RHYTHMIC ARTS presents SATCHMO SWINGFEST
Newsflash: After meetings with the creative directors of both Satchmo
Summerfest and Satchmo Club Strut, I have decided the appropriate name
of this event is the SATCHMO SWINGFEST.
Introducing: This year will feature the first annual Street Jazz Dance
Contest. This free contest will feature live music, diverse judges,
and free passes to the Ultimate Lindy Hop Showdown and the Fleur de
Lindy Exchange.

6:30PM – KEYNOTE SPEECH & ART OPENING (Free)
Professor Robert O’Meallie is the Zora Neale Hurston Professor of
English and Comparative Literature, and founder and director of the
Center for Jazz Studies at Columbia University in New York. He also
serves on the Louis Armstrong Educational Foundation board of
directors.
Plus, the “Jam Session – Jazz Ambassadors Embrace the World” photo
exhibit will be opening on the second floor of the Old U.S. Mint, on
loan from the Meridian Center in Washington DC.
10PM – PRE-PARTY FEATURING LUKE WINSLOW-KING ($5)

Fifty years ago, Armstrong and his All Stars embarked on a marathon
six-month-long tour of Europe. Armstrong scholar Ricky Riccardi will
be celebrating the anniversary of this tour by screening rare concert
footage, television appearances, and even film cameos done by the All
Stars during this trip.
6PM – SATCHMO CLUB STRUT ($25)
The 9th Annual Satchmo Club Strut features over 30 top jazz bands
playing up and down Frenchmen Street. The evening begins with a
traditional 2nd Line.

7PM – STREET JAZZ DANCE CONTEST (free)
This year will feature the first annual Street Jazz Dance Contest.
This free contest will feature live music, diverse judges, and free

12AM – BURLESQUE LESSON ($10)
Bella Blue of Fleur de Tease will be teaching a burlesque dance
lesson.

Conveniently located on the corner of Esplanade and Frenchmen/Decatur,
the Balcony Music Club has been the location for several after-hours
jazz and blues parties. The Loose Marbles and Festival DJs.
