It will be familiar to anyone who has already done the Denbigh to Ruthin 10 Mile course, as it uses the same roads, with the only new part being the section up to the Denbigh roundabout (the one closest to where the 5/9 Mile events start)
The signing-on and start is in the lay-by about a mile south of Denbigh on the A525 - exactly the same location as the 10 Mile event.
As with the 10 mile event, riders head to the Ruthin roundabout first (4.78 miles). Then it's back along the A525, continuing past the Brookhouse Mill until reaching the Denbigh roundabout (10.74 miles).
After encircling the roundabout, riders head back towards Ruthin on the A525, and pass the lay-by to complete the first lap (11.93 miles).
Once riders have passed the lay-by, they then do a SECOND LAP reaching Ruthin again at 16.70 miles, and back to the Denbigh roundabout at 22.67 miles.
Now the important bit...when riders reach the lay-by again to complete the second lap (23.86 miles), they need to keep going because the FINISH is at Pentre Llanrhaeadr, a short distance past the 40mph signs, next to a crossroads warning sign where the words 'ARAF SLOW' are painted on the road.
After finishing, riders need to turn around to head back in the opposite direction to return to the lay-by, however RIDERS MUST NOT PERFORM A 'U-TURN' IN THE MAIN ROAD! Instead there are two side roads shortly after the finish where riders can pull into to turn around, or there is a large forecourt / pavement section in the village itself by the Ford garage where again it is possible to turn around whilst being off the main road.
