IRAN Questions
What is the difference between preemptive action in Iran, who we
suspect of creating WMDs, and our preemptive action in Iraq?
What do you believe Iran is doing with on their nuclear sites?
Due to limited contact with the Ayatollah, what will negotiations with
Ahmandinijad accomplish?
Do you foresee American military action in Iran in the near future?
How have US relations with Iran changed since this summer’s election?
Will we provide the Iranian people with military support if there is
an uprising against the government?
If the presence of WMDs is confirmed how will the US respond? How will
Israel respond?

TWO STATE SOLUTION
SHANNON, HANNAH, AND ALYSSA

-Do you think further progress towards the two state solution is
feasible with the current intergovernmental fighting in Palestine
between the extremist groups, Hamas and Fatah
Depending on answer
-How do you think this situation could be solved
or progress could be achieved?
-We know that the US former president George W. Bush endorsed the
Israeli disengagement plan in 2004 and 2005 but we were wondering how
you felt about the effects that plan is currently having in
discussions and the effects it had at the time. We were also wondering
how you and Biden influenced this plan occuring.

These are questions about Iraq from James, Mike, and Kai-

Do you still believe that a tri-state solution split between the
different religious groups in Iraq is the best strategy for ending the
fighting?
Yes- A very large portion of Iraq’s economy is influenced by oil
exporting, specifically 90% of the nation’s total exports. Wouldn’t
dividing Iraq into Sunni, Shiite, and Kurdish states be unfair if the
Kurdish region contains most of the oil in the area? Couldn’t this
just lead to more fighting? And what role would the US play in the
split?
No- Then what do you believe the best strategy would be in regards to
restoring peace to Iraq?

Do you feel that Iraq’s security forces will be strong enough to
handle their own affairs by the time of our planned withdrawal in 2011
considering the recent surge in violence?
Yes- How can you confidently make that claim if recent civil attacks
have become more violent and wide-spread, including the attack in
October that is considered the worst attack in the last two years?
No- How can you justify leaving Iraq if they are still in a state of
conflict?

Do you think that taking troops out of Iraq and adding more to
Afghanistan or Pakistan would be counter-productive?
-If not what exactly do you think in Afghanistan justifies
the United States adding more troops than are already there.

What currently do you think merrits more attention from the United
States based on the threat of global security, Pakistan or
Afghanistan?

Do you think that Karzai is a reliable ally to the United States based
on the fact that many of the Afghani people do not view him as a
legitament leader?

If the Afghani Taliban were to gain full control of the Pakistani
government, do you think that US troop involvement in Pakistan would
be vital?

If al Qaeda or the Taliban were to obtain Pakistan's nuclear arsenal
how would the United States act to stop them?

What was it like to travel to the Middle East when thoughts of Osama
Bin Ladens resufacing was occuring?

2. Ukraine represents many Western ideas such as a pro U.S. missile
defense system in Europe, they then suffered from Russia cutting
natural gas lines in ’08 and then many conflicts followed afterwards
involving debts and amounts of oil being imported from Russia, what
would be a reaction if Russia strikes again? Diplomatic ties can

we learned from how we (you) dealt with Europe back then?

Intergovernmental Affairs/NGOs.
(Emma, Amy, Lauren, and Megan)

How is the environment of the white house different to working as a
philanthropist in NGOs?
We know the office of public engagement works with the state to inform
citizens about what the government is doing. In what ways exactly do
you try to accomplish this?
Because of the overpowering media scare of swine flu, what is your
office trying to publically accomplish in regards to vaccination and
prevention?
What is your personal role and the role of your office in the Obama

What distinguishes an effective NGO from an ineffective NGO?
What expertise did you lend as a consultant for the NGO, Education

What kind of accomodations does an NGO have to make to be efficient in

Asia Questions:

Do you think that the shift in power in Japan's Government will
benificial to the US's relations with Japan and improve success of
bilateral goals between the US and Japan such as the dis mantling of
north korea's Nuclear program?

Do you think that Chinese economic policy is beneficial to the
world economy as of right now?
On a related note, if the Chinese economy crashed and they
needed money, how badly would that affect the United States economy
and what major effects would that have on the global economy and what
would be the best solution to solve such a problem?

Do you think that the human rights/ censorship aspect in China is
something to consider when placing talks about developing the Global
Economy?

Do you believe that the Chinese censorship policy is really
necessary for the Chinese government to execute? What's the general
purpose of the censorship policy other than simply brainwashing the
Chinese public, and what is the goal that the government of China is
attempting to achieve?

Do you think that China can achieve its goal of a global
superpower status, and if they do, how would that affect the global
economy and what would the United States do to attempt to regain its
status?

How do you think the US should persue iteractions with North Korea and
talks of nuclear disarmament?

Pakistan questions (Aish, Bridget, and Kevin):

It has been reported that up to 70% of US aid has been misspent on
things like building a new house for the Pakistani Army's general.
What is the US doing to correct this, and if it is not actively
pursuing this cause, why not? How can we ensure that the aid gets to
where it needs to go without getting rerouted to the Taliban or Al
Qaeda?

Why are we spending only $1 in Pakistan to every $30 in Afghanistan,
when multiple studies have shown that Pakistan is the real
headquarters of terrorist factions?

How long are we going to continue giving aid to Pakistan? After all,
we are providing the Pakistani citizens with aid, but they are still
resentful of it. Could the same ends be achieved by distributing aid
through (non-religiously affiliated) NGO's?

Pakistan and India have been rivals for decades; how does this rivalry
affect Pakistan's attempts to deal with Al Qaeda and the Taliban as
well as the US? How can we prevent war from breaking out, and if it
did, would India (the world's most populous democracy) receive any aid
from the US? How would this affect our relations with Pakistan?

What is the current relationship between Pakistan and America like and
how it affecting our current goals in Pakistan?

How secure are Pakistan's nuclear weapons? Much of Pakistan's defense
of nuclear weapons depends on its military, which can be vulnerable to
extremist infiltration. How can we make sure that these weapons are
safe? What can we do to encourage Pakistan to reduce or eliminate its
stockpile of nuclear weapons (if this is even possible)?

Many Pakistani civilians are frustrated by the United States' drone
attacks which have led to the deaths of many civilians because they
view it as a breach of national sovereignty. How can we fight the
Taliban while killing fewer civilians?

Thank you.
