The Asia-Pacific region is poised to lead
the growth of carbon markets more than anywhere else.
South Korea's Parliament approved on May 2 2012 a long-delayed bill to
start trading carbon-dioxide emissions in 2015, paving the way for
Korea to become one of the first Asian countries to implement a
nationwide cap-and-trade system.
Australia’s Senate on November 8, 2011 passed legislation that
will put a A$23 tax on CO2 emissions for the country’s 500
biggest emitters from July 1, 2012, and introduce the world’s
biggest carbon trading scheme outside of Europe from July 1, 2015.
China has embarked on one of the largest endeavours in climate
economics ever, to establish a national carbon emission trading system
by 2015. With China’s seven voluntary pilots due to start in 2013
in five cities – Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Shenzhen and
Chongqing – and two provinces, Guangdong and Hubei, there is a
lot to learn from the market.
Concurrent
to vigorous proposals to reform the CDM, Japan is promoting
an offset crediting scheme through bilateral agreements with developing
countries as a post-2012 market mechanism.
Focusing on the growing leadership of the Asia Pacific market, this
exciting 7th edition of CARBON FORUM ASIA offers attendees a
comprehensive view of:
- The progress made so far in the Carbon &
Energy Markets
- The key challenges market participants are dealing
with today
- In depth analysis of the most efficient ways to
handle today's issues
- Thorough discussions examining the key challenges
ahead for the Asia
Pacific Region
