Need to buy some boat hooks for Ozone this weekend. Which type do you
recommend; the fixed length or adjustable?

My vote is telescoping. You need the length but also need to stow.
Isn't one probably enoughj?

Probably. One should be enough. I like to have an extra just in case.

I bought a telescoping hook & it's a real help. Then I decided I ought to carry an oar or paddle; West Marine sells a telescoping paddle that doubles as a boat hook. I felt stupid about the duplication until I saw Butterchurn's advice. Thanx for getting me off the hook.

One telescoping pole with a snap on head. We use a brush, LED light
attachment & snap at the end of our boat hook pole. Because the pole
adjusts to a short length the scub brush on the deck is useful. We also
have a home made attachment that holds a small LED flashlite that has
come in handy extended out over the water looking for mooring, under
docks, etc. Finally, we have an attachment (snap) for the clew on the
headsail to help hold in out when we are runnung with the wind
wing-n-wing. We installed a short piece of PVC tube at base of the mast
that holds the end of the telescoping pole in place i.e.spinker pole.
Good ole' fashion mid-west farmer engineering. There are many other
baling twine, duct-tape, bobby pin inventions on the "LOON". Jim

Ours are adjustable - easy to stow. We have two. Usually two of us on
board and we both pick up lines coming into the dock. How much you
use a boathook will depend on your docking situation. We're always
coming into slips that are way too big for us. Our old slip at Swan
Creek had what I called "cheater lines" between the pilings. They
were a big help in a crosswind and a boathook was a big help there.

Could you explain how the pcv attaches--or send a photo. We've been using the extending boathook as a hand-held pole for the headsail, but it slips out of the clew easily & I worry about long-term damage to the sail. I'd be glad to hear more about your setup.

We have 2-pieces of 1-1/4" D (I think that is the diameter) on each
side of the mast. Each piece is approx. 2" long. A slot is cut on both
sides of the PVC approx. 1/4" from the end large enough for a large
nylon tyrap to pass through. This was the first experiment and I
expected adjustment would be needed. The original cobble job is still
in place and works well. We have IMF i.e. a relatively large structure
to strap to. Good luck. In Michigan, most of us have our boats wrapped
us for the winter so there are no photos available for a few weeks.
Still ski season out here. Jim J

I have the telescoping and it fits perfectly Omer the center board line.
