I call it the tiller/motor link. Don't know if these pictures will help
much:
http://old.nabble.com/file/p33517638/At%2BEase%2B017.jpg At+Ease+017.jpg
http://old.nabble.com/file/p33517638/Sept%2B2010%2B010.jpg Sept+2010+010.jpg
http://old.nabble.com/file/p33517638/Sept%2B2010%2B011.jpg Sept+2010+011.jpg
The blue line wrapped around the connector on the tiller is for the rudder
and has nothing to do with the connector—it’s just the way I store the line.
Any bar (wood, plastic, metal) that connects the tiller to the motor would
work. Both ends need to be able to pivot a little and you’ll want the bar
to be level so you may need to build-up one side (motor or tiller) with
blocks, but you probably would need to do that if you bought the connector
from Stan.
If you zoom in on the pictures where the tiller is connected it looks like
the tiller side can slide back and forth. It doesn’t when in operation—a
pin keeps it in place. You can remove the pin and slide the bar for storage
but I don’t, so for me it’s not really necessary.
Good luck!

What do you call that piece that connects the outboard with the tiller so
they both track together with the movement of the tiller?
Are they difficult to install by yourself? What is involved in installing

Mine is exactly the same except in white. It connects/disconnects easily and of course guarantees that you won't chop up your rudder with the prop.
Allows for great control in docking situations.

I plan on going out for a sail this weekend and will try to remember to take
some better pictures, but in the meantime you can enlarge the pics I sent.
If your cursor looks like a magnifying glass just click; if not move your
cursor to the bottom right and an icon will appear that will allow you to
enlarge the picture. If not just save the picture and enlarge it with your
own software. If that fails, go to the I.T. department at any university
other than Virginia Tech and they'll show you how to do it.
Just kidding of course. Around here I have tons of friends from VT. I got
these top 10 gems from one of them:
1. What did Virginia Tech's starting linebackers get on their SAT tests?
Drool.
2. Why did they have to cancel driver's education classes at Virginia Tech?
The mule died.
3. Why do Virginia Tech grads put their diplomas on the dashboards of their
cars? So they can qualify for handicapped parking.
4. Why doesn't the Virginia Tech football team have ice on the sidelines?
The guy who knew the recipe graduated.
5. What does a Tech student need to have a seven-course meal? A possum and a
six pack.
6. How can you tell if a Tech professor is married? There are tobacco stains
on both sides of the pickup truck.
7. A U.Va. student visiting Blacksburg is appalled at the conditions in his
hotel room. He calls the front desk and tells the clerk, "I've got a leak in
my sink!" The front desk clerk replies, "OK, go ahead."
8. What's the difference between Frosted Flakes and the Virginia Tech
football team? Frosted Flakes know what to do when they're in a bowl.
9. How many Tech students does it take to change a light bulb? Only one, and
he gets four credits for it.
10. Why was the Tech student so proud after completing a jigsaw puzzle? It
only took him six weeks, and the box said "3-5 years."
Seriously--great school; especially because of the faculty. I'm sure you
don't have tobacco stains on the side of your pickup. :)

You need to come out for a sail again. If you saw it you'd realize how
simple it is. I just have a hard time explaining it. Attach a verticle
post on the top of your outboard. Extend the back of your tiller with a
piece of wood and stick a vertical post on it the same distance from the
stern as your outboard's vertical post. Connect the two posts together with
a piece of wood that has holes for the vertical posts.
As I read this it still doesn't make much sense.
Hopefully someone else on this list can explain it better.

No, no tobacco stains on the truck. Both the wife and I are non-chewers. But I do have a pickup...... - rob
Of course it didn't make sense to an Annapolis grad--wasn't written in navy
blue crayon.
I went to Kansas State and it was a sad Saturday with the shellacking
Syracuse gave us. To make matters worse my son and his buddies were home
from Syracuse for spring break. I was an island of purple pride in a sea of
orange fanatics.

Great pictures--almost as good as your sunset tablecloth one. We have the
same linkage set-ups just different colors.
"Toasting the linkage" sounds like your wife is frying sausage--the rum and
tonic looks tastier.
