Our regular Chase protest in Wakefield on the last Monday of every month continue and the next one is this Monday:

Monday Oct. 26 from 11:30 to 12:30

Chase Bank in Wakefield at 580 Kingstown Rd.

(As always, we wear masks and socially distance)

Chase Bank has taken a couple of steps in our direction, but nowhere near what they need to do to stop the growing damage to our planet. For example, although they recently announced a $1 billion bond for sustainable/renewable projects only, they're still funding $65 billion a year for fossil fuel projects.

This past Monday, we held a protest at Chase's branch on Westminster St. in Providence, a branch which will be submerged along with half of downtown Providence by 2100. Here's the protest coverage from Uprise RI:  Downtown Providence Chase Protest

ALL OF THE FOLLOWING CAN BE AVOIDED OR MITIGATED IF THE BANKS, FOSSIL FUEL COMPANIES, AND GOVERNMENT ACT QUICKLY, DRAMATICALLY. AND PUT PEOPLE ABOVE PROFITS. OTHERWISE:

Record-setting heat waves, wildfires, droughts, global fresh water shortages, crop failures, inhabited regions and cities becoming uninhabitable (Jakarta could be underwater by 2050), starvation, economic collapse, mass extinctions, bleached coral reefs and growing ocean dead zones, border conflicts due to mass migrations of unwanted climate refugees, disappearing rainforests such as the Amazon, plagues, all topped off by unknown tipping points.

According to the NOAA, by 2075, Rhode Island will experience 5 to 7 feet of sea-level rise, and 9.5 to 11 feet rise by 2100. 9 feet of sea rise will permanently submerge the ports of Galilee, Quonset, and Providence, and inundate 90% of Wickford, half of local treasures such as the Trustom Pond and Ninigret wildlife refuges, most Rhode Island beaches and salt marshes, coastal rivers, and half of downtown Providence. The hurricane barrier can handle storm surges, but not rising seas. By 2200, the rise is projected at 32 feet and super-storms and surges must be added to this tragic mix.

Last Wakefield protest on September 28

Across the world, if we don't change our fossil fuel usage drastically, tens or even hundreds of millions of coastal residents especially those who live in Asia or Africa or on islands, mostly poor people of color, will become homeless climate refugees in a destabilized world hostile to their situation.

Note: We have neon green "Boycott Chase Bank" t-shirt for sale at the protests for $20. They come in sizes small, medium, large, XL, and XXL. They're great for protests, biking, and the supermarket.

If you ordered a Chase face mask and had it delivered to me, they've arrived and I'll have them with me.
