Dear friends,

Please testify in writing or in person at the following, important committee hearing:
  • What: Corporations are not People—House Resolution No. 7768
  • When: This Tuesday, April 9, 2024, 4 PM
  • Where: RI State House, Room 101
  • Written testimony to: Steven Sepe, HouseStateGovern...@rilegislature.gov
In written testimony to the House Committee on State Government & Elections please make clear that you are writing in support of House Resolution No. 7768.

This House Resolution asks the Rhode Island congressional delegation to support this session's US Congress joint resolution 54 (aka H.J.Res. 54) to add an amendment to the US Constitution specifying that it extends rights only to natural people and not to corporations.

Senator Whitehouse, who is running for re-election this year, has recently pledged his support for the Move to Amend approach. Representative Magaziner in January decided to co-sponsor H.J.Res. 54. Also, former Representatives Cicelline and Langevin co-sponsored this approach.

There is a lot more to be said about this. See for instance the arguments and links in We the People of Rhode Island, where you can read that, once upon a time, it was common knowledge in Rhode Island that corporations have only those rights that We the People afford to them.

We hope to see or hear from you on Tuesday.

Regards from all of us,
