Thefully waterproof Humminbird 999ci HD SI Combo sonar fish finder has a wide variety of features for finding fish in multiple locations. The screen is eight inches wide, and consists of a 480V x 800H pixel high definition full-color LED display that is in a 16:9 ratio. Side Imaging Sonar and Down Imaging Sonar allow for clear images of structure and fish, and also give coverage of a 240 foot section that can be seen from either side of a boat, for a total of 480 feet from side to side, along with the downward two dimensional high frequency sonar capabilities to identify structures and fish that are beneath the boat. The DualBeam PLUS sonar puts out up to a maximum of 8000 Watts of PTP power with options to view the beams side by side, blended, or separately. A 60 beam gives large fish coverage, and can locate fish on the bottom with high detail. SwitchFire Sonar is capable of targeting fish to a depth of 1,500 feet and it includes max mode, clear mode with Time Variable Gain (TVG) software, and three color palettes to handle all conditions of light exposure.
The internal color GPS system has a 50 channel receiver, and offers ContourXD mapping for chart plotting and advanced capabilities that allow for marking locations directly on the screen. As many as 2,500 points and 45 routes can be programmed into the GPS. GPS and sonar data can be shared between two units by using the Ethernet port, and are compatible with 360 imaging and trolling systems. The pre-loaded ContourXD maps include more than 3,0000 United States Lake locations and major ports, roads, interstates, and markers and also give location for drops and channels.
Also included are dual SD card slots, True Arch Technology, instant image update, sonar recording, GPS speed, and selective fish ID+. Display color can be selected, and with the optional 200/50 kHz transducer the depth capability increases to 3,000 feet. The transducer is included with a transom mounting type and temperature. Additional features include recording split screen, snap shop onto the memory card, bottom lock, and a unit cover. You can get a great deal on Humminbird 999ci HD SI here.
I got this unit with my new boat, dealer installed, have had no problems with it at all. Others have had problems, I think it not been installed right, or they just have not done the updates as requested to do at start up. This thing is awesome getting another one for the bow and network. Excellent unit!
I wished I had done more research, bought my 999 worked great for a while now when powering up the buttons will illuminate but screen will not power on up and the unit will not power down without unplugging. Humminbird wants an arm and leg to repair unit since unit is out of warranty. NOT HAPPY
I have a Humminbird 999ci HD SI on my boat at the console and am looking to upgrade the front unit. I was thinking about putting a 859ci HD DI on the front but Humminbird has discontinued the entire series. There are still a few available but they will be gone soon and you have to wonder how long Humminbird is going to support software upgrades for the discontinued models. I have been looking at the new Helix 7 and wanted to know if anyone has any experience with the new unit. The 859 will network to my 999 but unfortunately the Helix 7 does not support networking. It does seem to have a faster processor and a brighter screen but will not allow sharing of way points between the two units. So if I go with the Helix 7 then Im back to constantly moving way points between the two units. If I cant network the two units should I stay with Humminbird or should I look at the Lowrance Elite 7 with Chirp? Thoughts?Mike
I have 2015 Cougar FTD bought in August this year with the 999 / 959 set up. Same you would have except the 859 is just a smaller screen. I have mine link and love it. Talked to HB about all the changes and the said they would continue to support these units for a while with updates and software changes. Mine are almost 6 months old and are very good. I will not update for a couple of years. I would go that way too if I were you and make use of your features of both units for now.
First, the 800/900/1100 seriesis available through 2016 model year to us, which is more than just support.Second the Helix screen is the only benefit as it uses newer technology. If the 859 screen is fine, in our opinion, then go for it is our suggestion. To us the 800/900 model units has been a staple on depth finders. The Helix and core 800-1100 units do give some in DI signal to the Onix and HDS units. Other than this small difference the rest is preference and programming. Our thoughts are no opinion. If is based on your mounting room, placement and preference on what you need.
It depends on what is more important to you, 2d or DI. The Lowrance typically has better 2d than the Bird, and even more so with Chirp. The Bird has better DI, but inferior 2d. The C/S from Bird is superior. Personally, my choice of the three units would be the 859. The ability of your 999 to talk to an 859 gives a lot of options on a network. As mentioned, I dont think support in the future will be an issue for the 800 series as there are so many core units in use now.
I appreciate everyones input. I agree with the consensus but was concerned that I was purchasing a product at the end of sale cycle. I think the 859 gives me the most options and Ill go that direction. Its always good to be able to validate what you are thinking with others before you do it. Thanks everyone.Mike
The only way I could tell where I was, was by looking at landmarks and I could guess the depth based on how far from the reef I was, and if I could see the bottom, I was way too shallow. It was awful.
Yes, these fish finders come with an advanced GPS system that uses GPS technology that provides a means for you to know your accurate global position within 20 meters.
The screen is HD on this model and gives exceptional image clarity and with a 480v x 800h pixel resolution, you can see it in all light conditions, even with polarized sunglasses in direct sunlight.
Using the ethernet port lets you add on extra features to the unit like autopilot, radar, share GPS and sonar data between two units, compatibility with 360 imaging and trolling systems, and more. This means you can slowly build up your vessel electronics bit by bit using the 999ci HD si unit as a base to expand from.
