Panopticism DUE MONDAY MARCH 31

    Hi!

  Discipline is something that making people to obey rules and orders and punishing them if they do not. In another word we can call it a “box of controlled behaviors”.

In every moment of our life we are in discipline and we behave according to that discipline; at the University for Universities disciplines, at home for our family’s discipline and etc.  Without discipline it is nearly impossible to control people. It makes us to be responsible for our life. Human need discipline; except mad people. As Foucault says it

has both negative and positive sides.

Discipline creates disciplinary society which is needed for healthy society. Disciplinary society pushes forward country. Because all developed countries are possess disciplinary society. Without paying attention to established orders of course it’s not possible to own disciplinary society. So  for my opinion it is   an outcome of discipline.

   I think there is a relationship between discipline and surveillance but they are somehow different. Surveillance make us live in discipline so we never behave sincerely.

  We can say that technology came to his the most developed level in the world nowadays. And we can concern this progress to our country, too. Most modern companies use that high technology. One of the best products of those technologies is “telescreen” or video cameras. By the help of that camera you can observe people whom you want. WE can see it as I mentioned before most developed companies, universities, schools and etc. I mean we meet with panopticism everyday nearly everywhere. But it’s not only way of panopticism; people do it in a different way. I want to give an example of panopticism. Someone knows everything about my friend. She was very angry and surprised about it. Because that person know even if very secret and personal things about her; where she goes, with whom does she meet, messages, phone calls and etc. She couldn’t find how he did it. So now she is suspicious about everybody. Or another example of it we can show the time of Soviet Union. People were in trouble; they never feel comfortable even if in their own houses. They cannot express their feelings, thoughts freely and couldn’t trust each other. Because they are always in doubt that, he/she can be secret agent of Soviet Union.  When I was a child (it was a time of Soviet Union) my parents even if between them didn’t talk about them. Because a fear of panopticism settled in their conscious; they thought that they are always under observation.

  That is to say Panopticisim is something that controlling people unintentionally. We are accustomed live with it. We unconsciously plan a piece of work thinking others; our speech, behaviors, clothes everything which is belonging to us. May in European countries it is different but I think they also do.    For my opinion it is against human rights. Nowadays everybody is talking about rights, law, truth and etc. but still we meet this kind of undesirable coincidences.
