Panopticism is a mechanism which keep people under control. In the
essay Foucalt show us different aspects of it.He shows us the
origination of panopticism-since the period of plague till now.It has
been used since middle ages and will be used in future, just its some
rules, tools have changed. Panopticism could be understood
differently; the one's control over others and the control self..I
think the first one is not so effective,it could be used in middle
ages by the people of kings..In modern time it is used by government
organizations, for example, by policemen..The second one is more
effective.A person controls herself/himself ,her behavior, attitudes
every time and everywhere.. It could bring restriction, limited people
behavior with itself, but does not mean restriction cold society
completely..People could act ,do whatever they want under the
selfcontrol. It s like conscience of human..If each person act
according to their self control, self conscience, society's problems
will decrease.I think culture of every nation is a part of the
nation's panopticisim.Culture,customs,some traditions prevent people
from different things, for example people who try to differ from others
always have to come against culture...
Panopticism is the result of Survilliance..Today in every
step, people encounter with survilliance..by cameras, by oyher
peoples..But the main idea in Foucalt's essay(in my opinion)as I say
above is self surviliance..It is very effective..I practice it in my
life. Some years ago,I began to behave as somebody is observing me, and
it helped me...
Discipline or Disciplinary society is the result of Panopticism
and Survilliance..People who observe,cultivate himself/herself
morally(not physically) create disciplinary society..People should
discipline themselves, and it should done by themselves....
