I've now posted the latest update for the Osborne Bridge
Rehabilitation project. Sorry its a bit late coming out. You can
view it on the Bike to the Future website at
http://biketothefuture.org/about/bttfs-city-committee, you will need
to scroll down a bit to view it and some other related documents.
Key highlights:
-- The bridge can be widened by 1.5m
-- The design team is proposing a bridge with 2.7m sidewalks
separated from traffic, plus 1.5m bicycle lanes on the roadway
-- Load restrictions prohibit widening the sidewalk beyond 2.7m,
combining the bicycle lane and sidewalk, or narrowing the separated
sidewalk to widen the bicycle lanes
-- The design team is looking at ways to provide an at grade crossing
at Osborne and Assiniboine/Mostyn
-- The design team is looking at ways to improve the pedestrian
crossing at Osborne & Roslyn by straightening out the ped crossings.
-- The design team is looking at restricting the doubling up of
traffic on the west side of Roslyn
-- The design team does not want to remove the extra southbound
traffic lane because of the traffic turning right onto Roslyn and River.
I'm especially looking for feedback on the goals for the project with
respect to cyclists. I'm holding an informal meeting at the Toad in
the Hold pub on Osborne, November 16th, starting at 7pm. If you can
come out and offer feedback, it would be appreciated. If you cannot
make it out, please feel free to post comments to the One Green City
groups or email me directly (mco...@mts.net).
