We decided long ago it was beyond our resources to provide installation instructions for each distribution/OS/deployment strategy/R version combinations. There are so many of them that specific instructions would only help one user. So the published instructions are a bit general and need some skills to be put into practice. That's unfortunate, but the best we can do at this time. So while I hope some user can chip in and suggest HDP specific procedure, I suspect your question is under-specified in that you don't tell us the HDP version, the underlying Unix, cluster provisioning or deployment software used such as vagrant or whirr or chef or what not and the R version. If and when you do, the combination is probably specific enough that you are the first person to try it, hence you have to create your own fully detailed procedure.
