Happy Sunday to everyone

I thought that we should speak Tuesday night, at 8 o'clock, if possible, to discuss the following subjects

1) The printing of our presentation.  As I noted in a message sent out a moment ago, Jenn has certain ideas and I will contact some publishers in town.

2) Presentation.  Could someone send me the presentation today so that I can attend at the publishers - printers tomorrow at opening of business

3) Where and when to present our draft

4) Visas

5) Travel arrangements

6) Request for help with expenses

7) Language classes - I will be in Ottawa next Saturday and I was going to try to hire our teacher for a 2 hour class - does anyone wish to join me?

Please add our subjects as you wish.

I look forward to your responses.

Cheers

Gilles

Hi Gilles,

Happy Sunday to you (and everyone else) too!

I have prior commitments on Tuesday, unfortunately.  I have prior commitments each night this week, actually.  Monday I am available from 6 - 7 pm.  Wednesday, I can arrange y commitments to make myself available for a brief call, upon request.  Thursday I may be able to call in around 8:30 or 9 pm, but I will be working at Fulford, so I am not certain.  In the meantime, my response to the below item numbers:

1)  Jenn's idea sounds great.  If we figure out the total, and it fits within our budget, perhaps we could save you the work of approaching all of the local print presses?

2)  Our powerpoint presentation is not completed, yet.  The revisions that were made actually created more work for me, so I've been focusing on tidying it up this weekend.  I put in some time polishing it yesterday, but still require a few things to complete it:

- as noted in my email yesterday, I need to locate the powerpoint presentation that the Brazilian GSE prepared... if anyone has a copy of it, I would very much appreciate it if you could send it to me (this is the last piece I need to get started on our opening/cover page
- we need some photos related to our District projects... Ragen was to take on this responsibility, but I haven't heard back as to progress...
- I am putting the finishing touches on the second photoshopped image... I will send that around shortly (I'm assuming everyone liked the first one because I only heard back from Michelle)

3)  I have no input on this topic, as I'm not sure how the great bureaucratic machine works nor how to grease the wheels so that we have an opportunity to present.

4)  I'll be sending my VISA application to Toronto this week.

5)  Not sure what travel arrangements need to be discussed?

6)  Jenn and I (well, Jenn on behalf of her and I :)  submitted a request for assistance with expenses to our local Rotary group.  Apparently that was against protocol, as we were informed that the request first has to go to the district for clearance.  This was news to us, as the GSE handbook and meetings we've had in the past indicated the request for help should go through the local groups.  Jenn has followed this up with Janet Eaton (the president of our sponsoring group), and she'll be able to provide a more current explanation of where we're at with that.

7)  I will be unavailable next Saturday.  Enjoy the training!

Thanks, have a great day!

All the best,

Matt

Just letting everyone know that the half price coupon expires tonight. There is an alternative of making a smaller order and getting hard cover. They are 19.99 each and two for one. It would look nicer. Also, I see that some of us are doubled up for host family and we should consider that as we can't give two books. We should probably give one book and buy some other small gift in that case. If everyone wanted to go with a hard cover book for our host families, I think I could still pull it together to get the order in tonight.

I was looking at the GSE manual and under finances it suggests that we need enough money for small gifts for host families. Just wondering again if we really need to bring so many gifts. I completely understand the rational behind the idea if that is still what the group wants or perhaps we can just vote for people to do what is required and anyone who can and wants to buy extra gifts could do so. Just a thought. I know I would like to give something to the schools I visit but instead of a book I would actually like to bring something that represents my own school emblem.

Good Morning Everyone
I hope you don't mind me making a comment about gift to families and others.  Here is a list of some of the things that my team brought along.
2 ounce bottles of maple syrup
Free Canadian flags and Canadian flag pins
Packages of Christie Maple cookies to be shared with a larger group or family
Baseball hats with Canadian emblem from the Dollar Store
Canadian flag ties
Framed picture of local icon picture (maple tree or maple leaf)...do it yourself
Larger plastic bottle of maple syrup for people did deserved more
For schools....at the Bulk Barn....individually wrapped maple candies
Pins from the local municipality
Canada flag sticks, canada pens, canada pencils etc......almost everything is available at the Dollar Store.
I have heard of people make things from "Canadian beer" tops.  With imagination you can have lots of inexpensive gifts.

Anna

Hello

At the cost of $10.00 US for each copy, plus taxes and shipping, I would purchase 20.

Thanks

Hi Gilles,

Sorry, I didn't look far enough down the email earlier. I would still like to make the books. So I will keep your order on hand and see what others would like. I don't mind making it and I would like to do so for my host families and take smaller things for other situations.

Hi everyone!
I am back on-line after yet another trip to PEI. Phewf.

Matt - I will touch base with you in separate email regarding pictures. Also - the photo-shopped slides are fantastic.

Jenn - The business cards look amazing!

Regarding visas - I believe we still need the official flight itinerary to apply for our visas. Have I missed an email or have these not come in yet?

Talk to you all at 8pm tonight.

- R
