Hi All,

I had attached an RF Explorer to a computer that had previously run the RF Explorer without incident this morning and was using the Windows client.  I disconnected it and went to do some field measurements.  I then came back to plug it back in to the same computer using the same cable and am now receiving an error saying it's showing up as an unrecognized device.

Things I've tried thusfar:

Rebooting
Connecting to a different USB Port
Connecting via a different miniUSB cable
Connecting a different RF Explorer unit to the computer (I have a couple of them)
Re-installing the SI Labs drivers
Tried it on a different computer, it works on that one, but it's a desktop machine and I need it to work with my laptop.

Nothing seems to be working to fix it that I've been able to figure out.  It seems to be a computer-specific issue, but I can't seem to figure out what the issue is.  I figured this might be a good bet for figuring out what the problem is and what, if any, remedies exist to fix the problem.

Thanks,

Paul

Hi,

Please check this article: www.rf-explorer.com/usb - in particular how to fully uninstall Silabs drivers as default uninstaller won’t do.

Hi Ariel,

I did try that as well.  That did not fix it.  After further research, it appears to be a problem with this model of laptop as it ages.  Luckily, I was able to find a temporary fix of pulling the battery and then reinserting it.  That seems to fix the problem.

Nice to know you found a workaround. From what you describe it looks like the laptop USB hardware got latched somehow and required a full cool reset. This may be useful info for other users if they get in same issue.
