Internal Selectable Attenuator

Hello, 

i see that the RFExplorer 6G Combo Plus has a selectable attenuator.

Does this attenuator do the same job of an external attenuator,

that is, does it really prevents damage in the case of high input power?

If so, what is the maximum attenuation that can be selected?
