Hi Jamie,

Did you install the Silabs drivers? If you didn't please install that first: http://www.silabs.com/Support%20Documents/Software/Mac_OSX_VCP_Driver.zip

Regards. Ariel

Setup: Brand new RF Explorer / brand new Macbook pro 2.5g 10.7.5 OSX / iRFE software v1.08

Have tried several brand new USB cables but no matter what I do, iRFE software will NOT recognize the RF Explorer.
Says "Waiting for connection" / Board <none found> / not connected

Any idea why my laptop won't see my RF Explorer?

Thanks

And installed - check that you get a device/file called '/dev/cu.<something>' once the iRFE is powered on. It should disappear if you unplug.

If that fails - fire up Applications->Utilities->Console and check the output for 'RF Explorer' (top right filter field).

Thanks,

DW.

This driver requires OSX 10.9.  Is there one that will work on 10.7.5?

The driver is fully compatible with 10.7.x, you should be fine using it. See release notes at http://www.silabs.com/documents/public/release-notes/Mac_OSX_VCP_Driver_Release_Notes.txt

Known Issues and Limitations
----------------------------

This release includes the Macintosh OSX driver for 64 bit Intel
Macintosh computers running MacOS X 10.7 or greater.

When I try to install the driver, it tells me that 10.9 is required and it refuses to go any further.

Please use this link provided by Silicon Labs support to install legacy driver: http://www.silabs.com/Support%20Documents/Software/Mac_OSX_VCP_Driver_10_6.zip

I installed the legacy driver with no problem.  However when I open the app, it does not see the RFE hardware, and most of the time it gives me a perpetually spinning beach ball.

Tried again.  No more beach ball, but in the lower left it says Board: <none found> , and in the lower right it says Initializing.

I took a look in Console, and RF Explorer never appears.  It shows that the driver loaded successfully, then  it times out after 10 seconds.

This should not be such a PITA.

No (but then you are setting yourself up for pain by using a previous-decade OS).

Next step: Try running “System Information” and see whether the RF Explorer even shows up under “USB”.
