This could be an ideal time to ask some questions.

Subject: BOE Meeting Monday, August 5

Dear Hastings Community,

The Board of Education will hold a work session on Monday, August 5 at 7 p.m. in the Russell Lecture Room. At our last regular meeting the Board did reach a consensus on the overall renovation of Reynolds Field, which will include a regulation track and a Geo-turf field. This has not changed. The purpose of the upcoming session is for Board members to discuss some additional details regarding the project financing.

We will not be voting on any items on August 5. We anticipate approving the final bond resolution at our Tuesday, August 27 meeting and holding the community vote in the latter part of October.

Sincerely

Eileen Baecher, President
Hastings-On-Hudson Board of Education

It's unclear from the Policy Manual whether the provision for public comment extends to work sessions, however there seems to be nothing that restricts it.  The question might be whether Board would allow questions but propose to limit the subject of such inquiry to the issues of finance, that being the stated purpose of the session. Unless we were to have some opportunity to review any of the supporting materials that might be referenced (as, presumably. will BOE members), our ability, as individuals, to make any meaningful contribution to the discussion would likely be significantly limited.   Is the fact that the Monday (8/5) meeting is currently scheduled for the regular venue - the Russell Lecture Room - an indication of how many of us are expected to attend?  For those of us who may, in fact, be unable to do so, I sincerely hope that there is no repeat of the sub-par recording quality of the previous public meeting.

What information have we been presented with, over the course of discussion since February 4, 2013 (the first public meeting),  that would allow us to ask intelligent questions...information that hasn't either repeatedly changed, or been extraordinarily vague, or 'conceptual'?  How can we ask questions which, by the very nature of the agenda ("to discuss some additional details regarding the project financing"), would not signal a tacit acceptance of the BOE's  'concensus', which, in retrospect, seems a skillfully executed strategy to take a vote without actually taking a vote.  Well done.  Quite disarming.

Would the lack of significant comment on this list, or in the paper, following that July 10th non-vote have been different, had the Board, in fact voted, officially?

Just seems important to be there, and to be as well prepared as possible - Isabella
