> Dear Hastings Community,
>
> The Board of Education will hold a work session on Monday, August 5 at 7 p.m. in the Russell Lecture Room. At our last regular meeting the Board did reach a consensus on the overall renovation of Reynolds Field, which will include a regulation track and a Geo-turf field. This has not changed. The purpose of the upcoming session is for Board members to discuss some additional details regarding the project financing.
>
> We will not be voting on any items on August 5. We anticipate approving the final bond resolution at our Tuesday, August 27 meeting and holding the community vote in the latter part of October.

Dear RenField groupies -

As we know, this particular list engages a range of diverse points of view, and has included participation, on a number of occasions, by BOE members.  The BOE likes surveys.  Well, who doesn't?  So, here is an opportunity for a thoroughly unscientific foray into surveydom.

How many of you, on this list:

a) are aware that the school district has a web site?

b) are aware that the site, http://www.hastings.k12.ny.us/find_school.aspx  is no longer operative, pending migration to new site?

c) would have thought to, or actually did try to go the site in seeking more information in preparation for Monday's BOE meeting?

d) would think to express some measure of displeasure to the BOE  (BoardofE...@Hastings.k12.ny.us) for being unable to properly prepare?

End of Survey.

The Board is, I am certain, extremely busy, at this point in time, both individually and as a body.  As with all of us,they must prioritize how they direct their efforts and energies.  If I, and Isabella, are the only ones who notice or seem to care about the site's inaccesibility at this important time, why should they be particularly concerned? It will, after all, work, eventually.  As with the recent flawed attempt to record the last public work session, and completely apart from the nature of one's own opinions on the issues, a disinterested public gets exactly what it demands.

Here is the email I sent to Board Presidient, Eileen Baecher, yesterday:

Dear Eileen -
It would be extremely helpful, and thoughtful, if you could be clear with regard to the format of Monday's meeting.  While the title of the page is "Regular Board of Education Meeting", the agenda format is changed.  There is no item for Public Comment, and item #3 is titled "Workshop", which I was unable to reference in the policy manual.  It would, of course, have been helpful to have the website back up before I communicated this, but, as email seems to be working, I would ask that you attempt to clarify this before hand.
Thank you.
David Skolnik

It would also be helpful if those who do communicate with the Board would copy their responses to this list, for, as with any survey, the results are only useful to those who know what they are.

Thanks -

David Skolnik

BoE website is down.

I don't think the board is giving us any opportunity for input other than the vote, anyway. Yes or no to the whole thing.

I am still trying to find out definitively whether this money comes from the school budget or a separate levy. And whether it is counted against the State spending cap.

I emailed a few board members but haven't heard back.

I don't think interaction with the board does anything at this point. We should just learn what is being proposed, decide how we feel, and vote/campaign accordingly.

Perhaps the Village will be receptive to pleas for making Chauncey one way, or other concessions to those in the neighborhood.

I go to the BOE site about every other week & had planned to use it today. I looked at the site briefly last week & was pleased to see that on approx 7/23 some new, very important documents had been posted. They included Eileens' summary of the history of the Reynolds effort, which I thought was highly informative & helpful in understanding the Reynolds project. I had planed to go over that & other documents on the site today. I agree with Doug's suggestion about the importance of learning about what is being proposed & therefore find it especially frustrating that the official source of information is not accessible, especially one day before a BOE meeting. I will write the BOE later about this & will cc my email to this group. Thanks very much -Robin Herbert

I have some information that may be helpful about access to the district website and the board meeting.

We are in the process of changing over out website to www.hohschools.org, which is up and running.  Somehow, as these changeovers go, the link from our old web address to this new one is not working.  We expected the transition to take a couple of days, and obviously that didn’t happen.   We are ALL hoping that this problem is fixed early this week!

In the meantime, please take a look at the new website, but also know that it’s likely that some of the old content has not been moved over.  Also, if you want to communicate with board members by e-mail, send them to our individual school e-mail addresses, not the general board address, until the problem is ironed out - we’re not getting those general messages.  Believe me, we are extremely frustrated too!

About the board meeting tomorrow night, here’s the e-mail that the village sent out on our behalf on Thursday (since we couldn’t send it ourselves):

The Board of Education will hold a work session on Monday, August 5 at 7 p.m. in the Russell Lecture Room. At our last regular meeting the Board did reach a consensus on the overall renovation of Reynolds Field, which will include a regulation track and a Geo-turf field. This has not changed. The purpose of the upcoming session is for Board members to discuss some additional details regarding the project financing. We will not be voting on any items on August 5. We anticipate approving the final bond resolution at our Tuesday, August 27 meeting and holding the community vote in the latter part of October.

Tomorrow’s meeting is a public work session at which we will discuss just the one financing issue.  Item III on the agenda that was sent out on Friday should have read “Work Session,” not “Workshop.”  There will not be a public comment, although everyone is welcome to attend.

Thanks for this info. And the new sites look way clearer than the old ones.

Any chance you could explain how the bond gets serviced? Does the money count toward our nys cap?
