Dear All,

It is clear that we need to come to some consensus on the main points of
opposition to artificial turf on Reynolds field in order to gain support
from others in the community and defeat the bond vote.

We as a group need to come up with a number of main points detailing why we
are opposed to the proposal and to publicize these coherently to the
community.

What the school board has in its favor at this time is that it has reached a
consensus, is clear about its goals and is able to communicate effectively
and clearly to the community. Those of us who oppose their course of action
must do the same and be able to express clearly why artificial turf and the
proposed reconfiguration of the field are bad for our school and our
community.

There are some flyers at the field and the playground detailing the School
Boards viewpoint in a persuasive and articulate manner. If we are to defeat
the bond, we must find a way to make our points equally articulately and
persuasively, and first agree upon what those points are. It may be that we
individually oppose different aspects of the proposal, but some clarity is
needed to address the wider community.

Unfortunately , the argument that other areas of the school also need money
does not really apply , since there are no specific proposals for
renovations/improvements in those areas at this time, and the figure in the
bond vote is specifically related to the cost of the proposed field
renovation. We need to focus on why artificial turf is inappropriate for
Reynolds field and for our community as a whole, and ensure that the
community has a chance to vote for a better solution.

Thanks to Victor for posting the link about the field in Bethlehem. I can
only hope that we are able to divide the vote in this way (I.e. Separate
votes for building facilities and field).

One thing the Board flyer states is that 'most school districts in
Westchester have chosen artificial turf'. I think WE need to emphasize that
a number of communities have rejected this (including Irvington) and that
our community can do the same.

Some interesting ideas today.  While not thoroughly observant, I will refrain for the day, in honor of Yom Kippur, though, as I write this, it doesn't sound like the football team, practicing on our terrible Reynolds field is similarly inclined.
One quick note to Kate:
Keep in mind that this is an open list, which includes both supporters and opponents, as well as Board of Ed members.  As such, it provides an interesting forum for discussion, but it would not be the place to discuss, in any detail, what actions we might wish to take, in our opposition.  Just a point to keep in mind.
