Here's a few random ideas that I wont have a chance to do, but thought
it was worth sharing incase someone is desperate to do an election
related project.

-- Policy / citation engine --
Simple system where people can commit a policy for a party and assign
a source. The source could be a news article, an election leaflet,
parliamentary debate etc. When submitting a policy the user summarises
it plain language then assigns a category and tags. Think
delicious.com (I have sketches for this if anyone is interested).
-- Video archive --
Scrape all youtube/vimeo videos put out by parties and candidates,
then have a page like the beeb's democracy live where the latest are
displayed. This is a cut down version of what I'd like to do which is
add videos candidate to TheStraightChoice.org (which are much more
interesting, but need crowdsourcing as they arent tagged properly)
-- I went into politics because ... --
Try and use the TheyWorkForYou API and google to and do term
extraction on why a particular MP went into politics (Might not work,
but worth a try). e.g.
