I use a SQLite database in my current app under development, but I create the database in the app if it's missing. I think I saw this discussed on the Google phonegap list, of which you are a member. Have you tried a search on that list?

Thanks for your reply, George. Yes, I searched the PhoneGap list and found out that it is a lot of work and the chances to make mistakes are big: http://qurl.tk/k7 I was hoping to find an easy way.
