Hi Sarah,
Thanks for this. I finally had a minute to look into it.
I can’t link my branch still though.
I need to link in my Alfred William REVELEY (1873), who claims on his marriage certificate that his father was William REVELEY and his mother was (Elizabeth Mary Ann) Agnes RENHAM.
I have found her (Agnes) in all different guises, but never the elusive William.
I did think I might link in to the William REVELEY you have listed as being born 1859 to Sarah SOPER and Samuel REVELEY, but I think you’ve taken that from Andrew Lewis’s information and I think he’s made a typo (it’s repeated all over the web, including on the IGI too!!) I think that William was actually born 5-Feb-1863. So he would only have been 10 when he fathered my Alfred William REVELEY! And anyway, I think he possibly died in 1866 as he’s not listed with the family in the 1871 census.
The only other possibilities are perhaps William REVELEY (1832) who married Ann STICKMAN, or the William REVELEY (1837) who married Fanny WHITE. Although there’s no record of Agnes RENHAM having married either of them (she claims in a subsequent marriage to be Agnes REVELLEY (sic) so I always assumed (perhaps wrongly) that she married). Perhaps she could just have had an affair with one of them. She did only have the one child, Alfred, so that’s a possibility.
I’m convinced my Reveleys come from this line, as everyone I speak to who *is* connected here (Ivor Reveley, Andrew Lewis, Jackie Montgomery, Corinne Reveley, etc) all pronounce it like we do. And there was always talk of coming from the Belgian/French Huguenots, who often came to London as silk weavers, which this line does.
Anyway, I’ll keep looking!!
By the way, I cleaned up your GEDCOM a little (some duplicates removed, and the amendment to the Wm REVELEY as above – 1863 not 1859) and added in a few extra people (five children for Sarah SOPER/REVELEY and William BELLAMY, plus one grandchild – who is bizarrely given the surname of REVELEY-BELLAMY, even though it’s his deceased step-grandfather who was the Reveley!). I’ve reattached it in case you want to use it.
Claire
