Old revelation files do not open anymore

I am using Revelation 0.4.14 on Fedora 24 for many years and ran into an issue. Some of the revelation files that were created in an earlier version no longer open.
Problem
========
Some files (from 2012) do not seem to recognize the password from the old file format. After the "old file format" message:
"Old file format"
"Revelation detected that 'password.revalation' file has the old and actually non-secure file format. It is strongly recommended to save this file with the new format. Revelation will do it automatically if you press save after opening the file."
and using the correct password I get an "Incorrect password" error. For some of my trouble files it worked when I quit Revelation and start a new instance (BUG??).
Do you have any advice help for me to recover these old version files to the point that I can open them and save in the new format?
