Revai: Battery Replacement

Hi all,

I am owning Revai (with AC) since Jan '08.
It is now complaining with low mileage (gives me around 30 kms in green band).
Reva-seva guys are saying that it needs battery replacement and I am
bit dissapointed as it is only 2 years old.
I have clocked around 20,000 kms so far.

I wanted to know from those who have replaced their battery, how many
kilometers did your car last before the mileage dropped?
What was the criteria for replacing your car's battery?

Any insight is much appreciated, since my Rs.80K is at stake!

Hi ...I have a similar experince. I bought my car in June 2008...and it gives me a somehow lower mileage @ about 45-50 kms till the yellow band.

Also..is there a better batery for Revas available in the market now?

Dear All,    26/4/2010

I have Reva AC old model (DC) drive since 5 years.

I first changed the batteries when the car had clocked in just 18,000 Kms.

2 years back the batteries started giving trouble, I could hardly get 10 kms.

I was told to replace the batteries. I got Trojan batteries fitted at a cost of Rs.73,000.00

I was told that initially I would get 60 Kms but later on it would go up to 70 kms. I believed them, but I was wrong.

Now I have clocked 30,400 kms - having done 12,400 kms on the new batteries and it is now giving me just 30 kms in the green band.

Yesterday I got the car serviced and they told me that they have corrected the battery and would give better mileage,

but alas it is the same old story, I am getting just 30 Kms in the green band.

Unfortunately I have married this car and have to live under all adverse circumstances.

I will be sending my experience with the service in my next mail

My car is booked  for service today. Your person phoned that he will come and collect it.

The problems are :

1 - I replaced batteries to Trojan brand exactly two years back, I am getting just 30-35 Kms in the green band.

     Kindly check the batteries and do the equalization if necessary though my car is doing it automatically.

WHEN I PHONED I WAS TOLD CORRECTION TO THE BATTERY HAS BEEN DONE AND BETTER MILEAGE CAN BE EXPECTED. YESTERDAY I TOOK A DRIVE BUT ALAS IT JUST THE SAME OLD STORY, I AM STILL GETTING ONLY 30-35 KMS IN THE GREEN BAND.

2 - Righ hand side mirror to be fixed, if you dont have the matching color no problem - THIS HAS BEEN DONE.

3 - Front bumper to be welded (left side) and repainted to Wine red color

      (The same side was welded 2  years back but work was very poor, the welding came off. please see that proper job is done)

THIS HAS BEEN DONE AND FRESH PAINT HAS BEEN APPLIED. HOWEVER I FIND THAT WHOEVER HAS PAINTED THE BUMPER HAS MADE SOME MATCHING TRAILS ON THE BONNET OF THE CAR AND THERE IS PATCH MARK WHICH LOOKS UGLY. WHY THIS WAS ONE ON THE BONNET ????

4 - While reversing or going forward in a slow space there is thak thak thak noise, please chekc up.

TO SOME EXTENT THE PROBLEM IS FIXED, BUT STILL IN SLOW MOTION I CONTINUE TO GET THIS SOUND, PROBLEM NOT FULLY SOLVED. 

5 - left side of the car has got some water strains marks, if possible please remove them, I tried but could not.

NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE, THE STAIN MARKS ARE STILL THERE.

6 - the sound of the horn is not good, please tune it.

NOTHING DONE, THE HORN SOUND IS POOR

7 - The remote locking, beep sound is not working, kindly check and repair it.

NOTHING DONE, THERE IS BEEP SOUND COMING FROM THE REMOTE LOCKING. 

8 - please see the interior of the car is cleaned properly DONE.

BRAKE HAS BEEN FIXED.

I DONT KNOW IF THE CAR WAS WASHED. WHEN IT WAS DELIVERED TO ME THERE WAS DIRT, WATER MARKS ON ALL THE SIDES. IT APPEARS THE CAR WAS WASHED BUT NOT CLEANED. THE WATER MARKS, THE MUD MARKS ALL ARE VISIBLE TO THE NAKED EYE. ANY CAR WHICH COME MUST BE SPANKING CLEAN, UNFORTUNAELY IT WAS DIRTY.

 

NEVER HAD I GOT THE SERVICE LIGHT ON. NOW AFTER THE SERVICE THE RED SERVICE LIGHT IS LIT. IT IS NOT GOING OFF. I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO.

 

OVER ALL I AM DISAPPOINTED BY THE SERVICE STAFF. THEY NEED TO ATTEND TO ALL THE PROBLEMS WHICH I HAVE PUT IT IN WRITING.

Dear All,

 

We have been using REVA since several years ...

Our first REVA gave us a good 65000+ KM with no battery problems at all ... in terms of mileage.

After of 6 yrs of use, we exchanged it with REVA for a newer better model .. .with the AC.

This too has been giving us a good mileage so far, it is over a year old now ... and has clocked over 22000 km. It did have mileage issues initially, but after having attended to them there is no issue at all now.

The batteries are covered under the contract with REVA too.

I am sure, if there are issues with some cars, REVA will be able to attend to them and have them sorted

It would be really very good if you could brief is what maintenance you have been doing as a owner for the car, that gives you such impressive performance.

 

You can split your maintenance activity in Daily/Weekly/monthly terms that would make it simpler to read and follow, by the other proud owners of Reva.

 

Also you also put some bullet points on your driving habit, no. of km used on a daily or weekly basis.

This would help other Reva owners, and decide on what habit they can change to get better out of their Car performance.

Hi Friends

Nice to read Sushil's mail. I am another proud owner of Reva i (AC) and I love this car sooooo much... I bought it about one and half years back and so far I have clocked nearly 27000kms.

I get 60 kms in the green band... This is possible without the use of AC. With AC it will be around 45km in the green band. I drive on an average 50 kms daily 5 days a week. On some days I drive around 60 to 65 kms. The top speed I have got is 75kmph.

Its so easy to drive in the maddening Bangalore traffic and so easy to fit into any parking lot. This is the best thing I like about this car.

Another thing I notice every day is the smiles on peoples faces whenever they see the Reva. Particularly, the kids..... Their smiles are contagious and I too end up smiling at them.

Here are some tips on getting a good mileage regularly:

1. Get the batteries watered once in 20 days.
2. Use the car regularly and discharge the batteries as much as possible. Get the needle to the bottom of the yellow band as often as you can. ( The principle of charging and discharging is similar to the mobile. So the more you discharge it completely,the more the life of the battery)
3. Daily use of the car will give you better battery life. Off course, the number of kilometres run is an important factor.
4. Its very important that you use the accelerator and brake very judiciously. Unnecessary acceleration and braking will result in faster discharge the battery.
5. Reva Service recommends that regular equalization also should be done for a long battery life.

i am Mohan a reva classe 2003 owner i purchased an used car in the year May -2008  at that old existing power pack i was getting 35 to 40 km per charge on all bands nearly after 18 months i had mileage problum i was getting 15km i was told to change battery which i did in nov 2009 after which i am happy with mileage i get 50 km in green band recently because of high voltage my charger is gone i spoke to revaseva thay said it will cost Rs 6500 i was upset because just i lost Rs 6500 in seconds only because it was on charging i request all reva owners to know about stabalizer which the company has to recomend to install at charging place to avoid such unnessesary expenditure at last if i caluculate i felt reva is not economical but a only easy to drive & park car in city driving....

I have been using Reva-i for the last three years.  Initially I used to get 80 plus for the first 30,000 kms.  Now I get around 60.  Current odometer reading is 34000 kms. 

 

Now a days the temperature light glows and the green light (charging light) does not become solid.  I was told by Reva that the batteries have started degenerating.  I switch off the mains once I notice temperature light glowing.
