What are the implications of the current pandemic on
the battle against the use of single-use plastics
in the Bay Area and beyond?
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to run its course, human health is not the only valuable that is at stake in our communities. An alarming resurgence of single-use plastics threatens our climate, and hard-won progress in reducing our reliance on single-use plastic disposables is in danger.
It is evident that the Plastics Industry is taking advantage of this global health crisis to encourage rollbacks of existing measures that reduce plastic pollution, and to elicit fear and uncertainty around the safety of reusables.
Join the Ecology Center for a LIVE WEB STREAM, in which we will discuss the impacts of the coronavirus crisis on the future of reusables and our fight against single-use plastics. You’ve got questions--we’ve got an expert panel!
Our expert panelists include:
· Professor Kate O'Neill, UC Berkeley Department of Environmental Science, Policy, and Management;
· Caroline Cox, Senior Scientist, retired, Center for Environmental Health;
· Dagny Tucker, Founder of VesselWorks, a reusable cup service; and
· Jessica Heiges, UC Berkeley Ph.D. Student in Waste Management.
This panel discussion will be moderated by the Ecology Center's Community Engagement Program Director Denaya Shorter and will include a moderated Q&A for the community to join in.
This is a free community event sponsored by the Ecology Center. All donations are greatly appreciated and go to support more programming like this.
Once you RSVP for this event, you will receive the meeting registration link, to be added to your calendar and set up prior to the live webinar.
We look forward to greeting you online!
