Dear MaryEllen,
I am sorry I missed speaking with you today. I hope that you might be able to help identify people who would be excited by this opportunity. I appreciate any help you can offer. Debra
Olive Grove is assisting Resource Area for Teaching (RAFT) in San Jose, California, in its search for a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to evolve RAFT's vision and increase its impact as it aligns its programs and operations to support educators in inspiring, engaging, and teaching children through the power of hands-on learning. Your nominations and suggestions are of great help in reaching those who may be interested in learning more about this opportunity. Please feel free to reply with any referrals or questions.
RAFT, a 501c3 nonprofit organization, has been supporting educators with ideas, training and low-cost materials to facilitate hands-on learning for 20 years. The new Common Core standards, adopted by 45 states including California, align well with the project-based learning, inquiry-based instruction and design challenge thinking that is at the heart of RAFT's efforts to help re-invent learning and build 21st Century skills in students across the country.
The shift to the Common Core Standards is providing an exciting, but daunting, challenge for teaching and learning. RAFT is in a unique position to apply its institutional knowledge and tools to help facilitate the kind of real-world, reflective learning that the Common Core Standards are designed to promote.
RAFT is looking for a dynamic, visionary leader who can refine the vision for RAFT in order to seize the current opportunity, focus on developing and implementing core strategies that will grow impact and reach, and evolve a model for national impact. Reporting to the Board through the Chair of the Board, the CEO will have full responsibility leading RAFT in pursuit of its mission, including administration of the organizations, its programs and financial health.
RAFT has a $3.3 million annual operating budget and over 40 employees in three Bay Area locations, an online store and two active affiliate locations in Sacramento, CA and Denver, CO. Each year, over 10,000 educator members utilize RAFT's resources in support of teaching over 850,000 students. RAFT is in a solid financial position with more than 12 months of reserve funds and ownership of its two key facilities. In recent years, the Board has made decisions to increase investment in the organization in preparation for the implementation of the Common Core Standards.
A full description is attached. Please feel free to forward this information; we are happy to discuss the position with anyone interested in additional information. We thank you for your consideration and look forward to assisting you in any needs you may have now or in the future.
