Hi everyone,

So I watched this video and immediately became enamoured with the idea of browsing BBS via an old terminal like this over WiFi. I have an AT&T 715-4425 terminal, and would love to try this myself.

It doesn't seem to be so straightforward to get hold of one of these WiFI RS232 modems though. Several of the places that did supply them seem to have sold out. I have contacted 8bit_bruno over ebay, who might be the original creator of them I'm not sure.

I know that the circuit plans are open source, but my electronics is not up to just following a circult diagram to build something (yet). I wonder if there are any tutorials out there, or if anyone made a PCB which I could add the parts to. I live in Kazakhstan, so ordering lots of parts from AliExpress might be more reasonable than getting a unit shipped from Italy.

Would be great to hear of people's experience of the WiFi RS232 modem, especially if you managed to get hold of one recently.

Thanks,

James

I have bought WiFi modem (https://www.tindie.com/products/theoldnet/rs232-serial-wifi-modem-for-vintage-computers-v4/) primarily for browsing internet BBS's, but I have found there nothing interesting for me. But now WiFi modem on my SC126 (ZPM3, combination of CP/M 3 and Z-system) work as "network card". I have wrote program for set RTC, simple mail program, gopher client and series of programs for file transfer to/from home NAS via WebDAV protocol (http://www.chstercius.cz/cpm/). At this time is WiFi modem very important periferal for me.

hi James and Pavel, nice video and wifi modem; :-)

http://www.chstercius.cz/runcpm/
I found this Pavel's older page about RunCPM while browsing through several mods of it for various hardware, as now I am trying to launch it by arduino at least (because of other libs for Arduino_GFX "hal" as base for my own terminal ""chip"" prototype) on WaveShare rp2350-touch-lcd-2 and also rp2350-lcd-1.47 for now, but I have some issues with SD init, and/or weird usb-serial (freezing just before z80 starts or so ... ??) ... will try to fight it here myself, sure (and to learn more about its implementation, as it IS interesting, for me), but "hal" of his thing is slightly, how to say,  ... wildly handled; I can imagine quite better/simpler configs for various boards, which differ today mostly in SPI gpio pins and if its shared or not ... till now I used only lcds, but now, this is "challenge" )) ... expecting on dual-core rp2350 will be possible to have RunCPM in one and terminal in other, having custom (very crazy ITU-T keypad alike) keyboard connected ... when I found Pavel's page, he has its own older/simpler version there, its easier to peek into ... will see, what to do with it

just wanted to bump this and note Pavel's older RunCPM page too :-)

interesting info about these terminals, VT340 uses similar basic colors I am planning for 7xtgv, not knowing those terminals at all,  but it was naturally simple at that time; on this wiki page are programming manuals and especially the second one about graphics is cool, I never saw things before, obviously (fact is smooth scrooling was on atari xl) + also the sixel graphics, noted here only few times, ya; interesting;
