Greetings, All,

So far I've had two How-To documents that have been well received, and I've recent completed some touch revisions on both of them thanks to useful feedback from the community.  I host the PDF of these documents on my Google Drive, and have been linking to them all over the place (in whatever topic they might be helpful).  That is going to get to be a pain going forward, so...

In the interest of having one place to look for the latest, and to suggest subjects for future How-To documents, I've created this topic.  Links below are to the latest as of Sunday, 29 Mar 2020.

I welcome feedback, more especially from those who actually try to use these documents.  Your input will help make these documents more useful.

To those who would suggest new subjects for future How-To documents, let me make clear:  I would need to learn how to do what is being proposed before I would feel good trying to write about it.  I may be asking lots of questions prior to actually producing a first draft of anything new.

Hi David

Would you be happy for me to include links to your documents on my website?

Steve

I think I may have replied from email when I meant to reply to group.  I'll make it public:  by all means use what I produce if it meets a need.  I am pleased to be of service.

This post announces the publication of SC126 How-To No. 3:  Updating RomWBW From a Hybrid SD Card

This version is preliminary, but is based on my own experiences today with updating my SC126 to RomWBW 3.0.  Please have a look, and comment, more especially if you find any errors of fact or best practice, please.

Link:  [old link pointed to the preliminary with some bad info... removed.]  https://drive.google.com/open?id=1fKlflhVozHlLcWsXJ8HR3lUej99zqS-q points to the correct version 1.1

Thanks in advance for input to make this document more usable and better in general.

Later On,
David

Hi David,

Really like this new How-To document.  Using a hybrid SD Card is a really nice way to get the new ROM image over to a system to be upgraded.  Faster and easier than using XModem.

Everything looked right on the document to me.  The only question I had is whether you want to instruct people to get the ROM firmware image from your Google Drive.  It is perfectly fine with me, but you would need to update your Google Drive with every new RomWBW release.

Once you indicate this How-To is finalized, I will add it to the RomWBW distribution.  Very useful.

Thanks,

Wayne

That link is cribbed from Steve's SC126 Documentation.  It's not my google drive.  If there's a better link, please post and I'll update.

UPDATE:  I've been silly lately, I can see.  https://github.com/wwarthen/RomWBW/releases is a good link for this.  Sorry.  Update will be out shortly.

Link for v. 1.1:  https://drive.google.com/open?id=1fKlflhVozHlLcWsXJ8HR3lUej99zqS-q

This contains the update Warren requested, linking directly to the RomWBW official Github repository.  It took me a while, but the link I was looking for was at the top of the thread announcing RomWBW 3.0.  Too much on my mind lately, I suppose.

Greetings everyone,
I dont have a SC126 although I'd like to have a SC130 some day. If it is possible to trial a new romWBW as a .com file on this system before commiting to a new rom image then it would be a nice idea to include a reminder in the instructions. I do this whenever I'm about to re-flash the firmware just to be sure what I have compiled actually works for me.

Usefull guide regardless having all the steps laid out in an easy to follow manner.
I must try the new software soon.
Keep safe, David.

Gee, I've been away for quite a while, apparently.  I'm sorry it took me so long to look back in.  I don't have an SC130, so I'd have to attempt to trial a new RomWBW as a .com file on my SC126 to be of any help.  I'm reluctant to do that just now, as I'm not sure how to go about it.  How were you thinking you would proceed?
