It was first released in 1996 as FutureSplash Animator, and then renamed Macromedia Flash upon its acquisition by Macromedia. It served as the main authoring environment for the Adobe Flash platform, vector-based software for creating animated and interactive content. It was renamed Adobe Animate in 2016 to more accurately reflect its market position then, since over a third of all content created in Animate uses HTML5.[2][3][4]

i always recommend appending an increasing version number to the file name when using animate for several reasons, the most important of which you'll find if animate ever crashes while editing a fla. ie, that fla that was opened during the crash will often be corrupted, but the previous versions will not be corrupted so you never lose a lot of work (assuming you were saving after significant fla changes).

So I finally got the video to export, it turns out that Adobe animate just really hates the Media Encoder. Idk what the Media encoder is doing to my animations but if I export without it going through that it works perfectly fine.

I am finishing up a three minute animated music video in Adobe Animate 2020, and as soon as I'm done with this project I will never use this program again. I've experinced so many strange glitches, I feel like the program itself is trying to drive me crazy. I had a camera layer, but when I tried to add a camera movement at the end of the project, it created phantom camera bumps in other scenes, where there were no keyframs so I couldn't fix it. I decided the camera tool was unusable, and settled on exporting the project and recreating the camera in After Effects. In order to do this I expanded my document size, which caused the program to freeze up every time. Finally I was able to get the document expanded by increasing it in increments of 100 pixels at a time over and over again. Took 20 minutes. Then I turned off "advanced layers" so I could export it as an SWF archive, and lo and behold, the program has somehow deleted random pieces of drawings all throughout the project, with no seeming rhyme or reason. Earlier in the project I had done a bunch of animation, saved the project, opened it the next day and found some of the work I had done somehow hadn't been saved. What is going on here? This program is so unreliable, I would say it's not useable to create animated films. It's hard enough to do this without the program undermining you at every step.

Thanks. I thought I was just doing something wrong for the first few glitches, but now it's clear to me this is not a serious program. I used Flash back in 2006 on a couple of adult swim shows and the studio seemed to have a solid workflow, but I couldn't imagine using this version of animate in any kind of professional capacity... it's sad, because the rest of the adobe suite is great.

Hi! I believe the paint brush tool in adobe animate is either broken or has a severely bad intended UI. I have spent 1+ days trying to get it to work to no avail, and I have found articles showing that the code is "Deprecated". Basically, I go to to the brush library to add custom brushes to paint with. I double click to add to document, however, the brush is never active -- my output when I draw is always the same dynamic brush, and I have no otpion to use any custom brushes. I go into the properties tool for the brush or the dynamic brush and it never gives me stroke options or style options. What do I do!? You'll notice that even though double I clicked on "Caligraphy 1" to add it to the document, I still got a normal dynamic brush, and, I have no actual options anywhere that I can find to actually change the stroke options or the brush style. When I click on fluid brush in the top right too nothing happens. I'm so confused and beyond frustrated. Need help.

Whenever I open animate, it loads normally with the loading screen in the middle of the screen; however, when it opens, it is located at the bottom of the screen so only the very top of the tab is visible, and it won't let me move it around the screen or go fullscreen. It makes a beep sound that indicates an error whenever i click on it. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the application and it hasn't worked. All of the other adobe applications work and move normally i dont know why this is a problem with Animate.

Well anyway, now that we've finally gotten to the actual question, the problem you're having is this-- filter effects in HTML5 Canvas documents are not natively supported by the browser, so they have to be implemented entirely in JavaScript. That means they're slow. The bigger the image being operated on, the slower they are. Because of this, the CreateJS library does not animate filter effects. You should have noticed this warning in the Output window whenever you published:

The image on the left has Color Effect: Brightness applied at 50%. The image on the right has a white overlay with opacity at 50% (offset so you can see what it's doing). As you can see, the brightening effect is identical, and it can be animated at runtime with a tween or by setting the overlay's .alpha property.

Hi Michael, did you have any luck? Currently I use i-frames to implement adobe animate projects to my webflow site. But there are some downsides to using i-frames. The plus side is that it is really easy to implement.

@n. tilcheff You mentioned it is not considered "good practice" to use Scenes in Adobe Animate/Flash. May you explain why that is?

I am aware of some of its disadvantages which are listed in the Adobe Help Article linked below, but most of the reasons are related to Scenes being confusing for multiple people working on the same .fla file or files taking up more memory. Neither is a problem for me as I work alone and mainly use Adobe Animate/Flash for creating short animated videos under 3 minutes.

How to work with scenes in Animate (adobe.com)

Regardless, thank you Nick for the work you do in the Flash/Adobe Animate Community and the experience and knowledge you share with us.

Scenes should be taken out of animate. It has too many issues and makes the .Fla too heavy and adds risk for problems or bugs. You are better off breaking down your scenes to .fla's. So instead of 14 scenes you would have 14 fla's, this way if something goes wrong with one .fla the other 13 are still safe. Then when you are done with your 14 .fla's you export 14 videos and edit in premiere.

I've been having constant issues with a particular file. For whatever reason, whenever I create a new key frame with new items on it, the timeline freezes and then maybe 3 second later, it plays a sped up version of the frames or just skips to the last frame. For reference, I am literally just animating a head turn, I added ONE key frame with a new head position and for whatever reason that is the most difficult thing for the program to run. I thought it was just the file being weird because I looked at some of my other animations and they are running relatively normal, just take a second or two to run smoothly. So, naturally I just thought the file was weird so I deleted it and started and again, and things were going fine until yesterday when it started doing this again. Also, after a while, it is impossible to even add a line or two on any frame because animate starts lagging like crazy and crashes way more than it's supposed to. Any response is appreciated! Thanks!

eliminate 1/2 the library items and retest. if no problem check the other 1/2. continue eliminating the problematic 1/2 of your library symbols until you find a corrupt symbol (or you eliminate all library symbols and still have a problematic fla indicating a corrupt animate or part of animate).

I just started to learn adobe animate. So probably do something wrong to loop animation. My problem is i cannot make looping from frame 16 to 31. If i use classic tween and play once option and if i enter 16 or 31 it resets to 1 all the time. Here is the video

When people think about animation, many think of cartoons, which are indeed one thing many Animators create. Animation is in countless forms of media, and much of it develops from applications like Adobe Animate. Adobe Animate, in particular, is frequently used to generate cartoons and 2D animated television shows. The application can be used to create characters and add effects and audio, and it has developed many well-known shows and movies, including My Little Pony and The Amazing World of Gumball. However, cartoons are only one of the things that Animators create with animation apps. Apps also help to create video games for computers and mobile devices, educational content, and a wide variety of advertising and animated content for the internet.

Employment statistics from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics show that animation is a good field to work in, in terms of salary and job opportunities. The agency reports that the median annual wage for Animators and special effects artists is $78,790. It expects about 6,700 new job openings each year for the next ten years in this field. Many of these openings will be for animation and visual effects for movies, television, and video games. The agency explains that ongoing demand for Animators will be related to the continuing need to create new animated content for mobile devices such as smartphones.
