However, we know timing can be an issue as life gets in the way and you may not be in the mood for food or heavy protein shake in around you workout. Plus protein takes time to digest before your muscle reaps the benefits. Hence, taking an EAA product like Amino Recovery during your workout is a great alternative way to get your essential amino acids found in protein.

Sauna increases blood flow to the skeletal muscles, which helps to keep them fueled with glucose, amino acids, fatty acids, and oxygen, while removing by-products of metabolic processes such as lactic acid and calcium ions.

Recovery weeks give your body a chance to recover from weeks of hard training. A well-structured training plan has a recovery week at the end of every training block. These weeks parallel the structure of regular training weeks but have shorter workouts with little to no intensity.

Activities that affect changes in body temperature, like drinking, eating, and exercise can interfere with your sleep cycle if you do them too close to your bedtime. This, in turn, can interfere with REM and deep sleep patterns.

A regular sleep schedule makes for a good sleep cycle. Try to maintain the best version of your regular sleep schedule during your recovery week. Going to bed at a regular time and waking up at a regular time can make it easier for your body to establish a deep sleep cycle.

Cyclists can use foam rollers to target muscle groups and tendons that get tight because they get a lot of use on the bike. Your hip flexors, your quads, your hamstrings, and your IT bands are a few areas that tend to get a lot of use. Your back and your neck can also get tight when you spend a lot of time on the bike.

Muscle flossing is a mobility exercise where you put a joint into a position of emphasis and bias the joint through movements and stretches that gently challenge that range of motion. Research suggests that this type of muscle flossing can improve mobility.

You may have heard of padsicles to help soothe your nether regions after vaginal delivery, but they can help with hemorrhoids, too, which you can get even if you had a c-section. To make frozen witch hazel padsicles to help your postpartum recovery:

Spending even five minutes with our favorite post-workout tool is an almost foolproof way to keep your body happier. Foam rolling can fight muscle soreness by breaking up tension and boosting circulation. Focusing on the lower body is a great way to start, especially if you are short on time. Spending even 1-2 minutes per muscle group will make a big difference. Glutes, hamstrings, quads, and the IT band. Have one extra minute? Also hit your upper back and stretch out your spine.

Some call it a cool down walk. Some call it a recovery run. Some do 15 minutes of slow flow yoga. However you end your workout, make sure it involves slow, intentional movement. It is too easy to run straight from the track to the shower to the office, but this can backfire the next day. Taking a walk around the block or a nice stretch session can work wonders to flush lactate, increase circulation and counter muscle pain and fatigue.

This one might be a bit more of a luxury, but worth the time if you have it. Soaking in a warm (not hot) Epsom Salt bath for 15 minutes after a particularly tough workout is known to help relieve soreness, reduce inflammation and speed up recovery. For an extra benefit, try the lavender infused salts for a well earned relaxation boost.

The biggest counter to fatigue? Sleep. We know that sleeping more at night is advised, but taking a timeout during the day might be your golden ticket. Closing your eyes for 20 minutes in the afternoon is proven to boost mood and energy levels. Just enough time to let the mind and body rest, but not so much time you will be groggy when you wake up. We might be biased, but this one is our absolute favorite. Recovery compression is an unbeatable way to support your muscles and encourage healing. Wearing DFND graduated compression is like giving a hug to your sore muscles. Sliding into a pair of Recovery Tights at the end of the day decreases lactic acid build up, forces more oxygen to your muscles and will increase your blood flow, significantly reducing delayed onset muscle soreness. MRI based studies have also shown improvements in muscle recovery.

Fact: It takes up to a year or more for your body to recover from the physiological impacts of pregnancy and labor. Be kind to yourself and nurture this precious body that carried for months and gave birth to your little one.

Padsicles are sanitary napkins soaked in witch hazel and placed in the freezer for a few hours. Use these to relieve and soothe any genital soreness, itchiness, or discomfort caused by pushing or hemorrhoids.

Lanolin or any good nipple balm can work well to soothe chapped and sore nipples, as you and your baby establish a solid latch. Note: Sore nipples or continued nipple pain throughout a feed are indications to see a lactation consultant

After delivering your baby, you may find the first few bowel movements you attempt are difficult or you may hesitate to apply any pressure in that general area. While the best store softeners are food-based like eating warm, easy to digest foods like broths and high-fiber foods in general, stool softeners are helpful if you find yourself in this predicament.

Stock your postpartum pantry with raspberry, nettle, and red clover teas, nuts and sesame, hemp, flax seeds, and nut butters. Start ordering in bulk now so you do not have to worry once the baby arrives! Look for sources of good fat (think: grass and pasture-raised meat and butter, quality eggs, oily fish like salmon and anchovies, and raw plant fats and oils like coconut, olive, walnut, sesame, and avocado).
