Dear all,
I am experiencing a very bad experience with make my trip.com. I am posting this mail to sensitize the people on the dubious methods adopted by such companies. Till now, the refund is not received in full. The sequence of events are:
  1. On 10-Jan-2015 I cancelled my air ticket and Rs.4425 was due as refund. The ticket was booked online. through the portal Make my trip.com.
  2. The company asked for  IFSC code and account number. (Normally, this information is not specifically asked). As an example, railways automatically refund the cancelled ticket dues to the account used for booking. They do not ask for any account number and IFSC code. This is a major deviation.
  3. The details were provided. The company claimed that money Rs.2059 was remitted on 29-Jan-2015. Why the amount was reduced?
  4. The money did not reach my account. So, I sent mail to confirm and send me proof of having remitted the money. Company was asked to verify whether have input my account details correctly.
  5. The company parroted the reply that money was remitted without submitting any proof. They called for my account statement to prove that money has not reached my account.
  6. Accordingly, statement of accounts from October-2014 to March-2015 containing all entries were sent  eight times. Each time company swore that money was remitted on 29-Jan-2015.
  7. Fed up, I asked the company to provide solid proof that they had remitted the money like their bankers certificate so that I can take up the matter with RBI and my bank. The company again parroted that the money has been sent and asked me to submit a letter from my bank that they have not received the money. This is the height of foolishness. The remitter has to provide the proof. I sent a registered notice to the company asking for refund.
  8. The part refund Rs.2059 said to have been remitted by them on 29-Jan-2015 reached my account on 31-July-2015.
  9. The company accepted that they have committed a mistake in reducing the refund amount from Rs.4425 to Rs;2059 and agreed to pay the difference.
  10. For the balance amount the company is dodging that their accounts department is bogged down with lots of similar queries and hence the delay. This reply is parroted every week seeking more time to resolve the issue.
  11. Refund calculation is not a rocket science which needs a team of people in their accounts department to work on the issue for eight months. An elementary school student can do the arithmetic in a few minutes.
  12. The company’s helpline telephone numbers are menu driven and does not contain a menu for complaints and grievance redress. The email ids of their higher ups are not provided. Escalate to next level tab is disabled in the portal.
  13. Now is it organized delay to use customer’s money and ultimately evade payment if not pursued by the customers? How many such amounts are there with Make my trip.com? Any company can bluff that they have remitted without doing so. Are thy not supposed to submit proof when called for to substantiate that money was remitted?
  14. I have made a demand for the balance amount due with interest and compensation for the mental agony caused to me without prejudice to my legal rights .
  15. Can this be referred to Cyber crime cell?
Learned members can suggest how to handle such situations particularly if the refund is substantial. Mine may not be an isolated case, as the company accepts that there are so many queries for the accounts department and hence delay. The errors appear to be intentional.

Thanks for sparing time and reading this long mail.
Govindarajan

I cancelled my air ticket on 10-Jan-2015. Refund due Rs.4425. Company swore that Rs,.2059 was refunded on 29-Jan-2015. But this did not happen. This amount reached my account on 31-July-2015, after 70 emails and one registered letter. Why the amount was reduced? The company accepted that this is a mistake. The remaining amount has not been remitted. Every week, the company is parroting a standard reply that their accounts department is bogged down with lots of such cases and hence the delay. This means that the company has lot of claims not refunded by them. Will the higher management wake up and return the balance amount to me? It is sad that your company has made me waste my time and energy in writing more than 85 mails for the past eight months, while you should have focused to help a senior citizen like.me. Hope my money with interest and compensation for the harassment and agony caused will be paid to me. Will the higher management wake up? I am aggrieved. The companies replies are full of inaccuracies, misleading and evasive. Intentions are doubtful. Management should review the functioning of refund section and ascertain the true position.

Ensure that my money reaches my account before your committed date 12-Sep-2015. On 12-Sep-2015, do not repeat the same stereo type template parroting reply that your accounts department has lots of queries. You have done enough repetitions during last eight months. Our correspondences may reach the 100 if you do like this.  Courts will laugh at your reply. When money is due to you and your debtor replies in a similar fashion and harasses like this, how your company will react? Will it wait as I have waited?

Without prejudice my right to initiate legal action including referring the matter to cyber issues division of various governments of Government and law enforcing agencies,

You are seeking time as a routine. Is it another tactic? There is no justification in your reply. Let me know when my money will reach my account? I may resort to complaint with cyber enforcement and government agencies if you delay further.
