We invite you to the 1stSouth India Regional Conference on Inclusive
Education to be organized by Retina India on November 26 at The
Presidency College, Chennai.
Retina India is a registered national non-profit organization with a
focus on helping people with visual impairment due to retinal
diseases. It brings all stakeholders together on the same platform,
which includes patients and their family members, retina specialists,
low vision experts, genetic and other counselors, mobility
specialists, etc. with a focus on making treatments available to
Indian patients, while also helping them with social issues such as
training and education.
As one of our social objectives of promoting inclusive education for
children with visual impairment, we are holding a one day regional
conference that deals with means of identifying children with vision
impairment, and valuable tips and tricks to work with these kids in
promoting inclusive education. After promising success of a number of
workshops in Bangalore, we are now joining hands with the teachers
from AP, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala to help the process of
inclusive education along, which will help set the focus on being
visually impaired aside, and providing him/her the right stepping
stone to succeed in life.
The program is highly interactive, with the attendees being asked to
share their views and thoughts, which will help the process of
inclusive education easier to incorporate in mainstream schools.
Experts will present valid and proven methods for teachers to
understand the concept of dealing with children with visual
impairment, through interactive and process oriented sessions, which
will help make these kids become an effective part of classroom
activities.
The program is meant for the following:
• All schools/education institutions in South India
• Government officials in the field of Education in South India
• Non-Governmental organizations (NGOs) working in the field of
rehabilitation of the visually challenged
• Role Models who have achieved success, who would like to share their
experiences
• Children with visual impairment
• Parents of children with visual impairment
• Companies with a strong focus on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
Objectives:
• Familiarizing teachers with visual impairment, low vision and
progressive vision loss.
• The social, economic and legal reasons for mainstreaming children
with vision impairment.
• Exposing teachers to technologies and teaching methodologies that
had made inclusive education possible in the 21st century educational
system.
• The possible challenges of inclusion of children with retinal
impairment and low vision and ways of handling them.
• Adopting mainstream curriculum to teach children with visual challenges.
• Creating a dialogue between teachers and experts in order to
understand the limitations, doubts or concerns teachers may have in
inclusion, and addressing all of them.
• Creating a platform where teachers can continuously learn about
various ways of including children with retinal impairments and
propagate the same to their colleagues in the system.
