For a Dispatcher, no day is ever routine. One call may be a minor traffic accident, while the next is a frantic voice screaming for help. Both will be depending on your calm, firm voice and direction until help can arrive. It will be your training, your ability to make effective decisions and act quickly, that will make the difference. Are you ready for the responsibility?

This examination will consist of a computerized pre-employment exam. In order to obtain a position on the eligible list, a minimum rating of 70% must be attained. Applicants who do not appear for the examination will not obtain list eligibility and therefore will not be eligible for the position. The test will consist of the intensive, multi-dimensional test battery for entry-level dispatchers developed by CritiCall. The test is designed to measure underlying skills and abilities a person needs to possess prior to any training they might receive if they are hired as a public safety dispatcher and/or call taker, including the ability to effectively navigate and use a computer. A separate application will be required for each vacancy you wish to be considered for.

As a Public Safety Dispatcher/Operator, your voice will save lives and you will make a huge impact every day as an important part of the California Highway Patrol. In addition, you will also receive the following benefits:

Seminars are a great opportunity for potential applicants to learn more about what it takes to become a California Highway Patrol Public Safety Dispatcher/Operator. These events include presentations from recruiters and dispatch supervisors, highlighting information about the different aspects of a career with CHP. Seminar topics include, but are not limited to, the following: the application process, life as a public safety dispatcher, a typical day as a public safety dispatcher, and many more. Following the presentation, attendees are encouraged to ask questions and engage with recruiters for more information.

A phone number procured from Twilio can be used to place voice calls or send SMS messages. Phone numbers in the 319area code are used and registered to the Iowa City area if possible. Dispatch Support will take care of procuring a numberfrom Twilio for you and configuring it as necessary.

Phone numbers owned by the University of Iowa can be used to place outgoing voice calls. In order for a UI-owned numberto be used by Twilio it needs to undergo a verification process with Twilio. Dispatch Support will work with you to conductthe verification process. At this time, UI-owned phoned numbers can not be used to send SMS messages.

By default, sending SMS messages and placing voice calls to international phone numbers (those outside the +1 calling code)are not allowed. If you have a use case, it is possible to enable sending messages and placing calls to international numberswith additional configuration when the Twilio phone numbers are procured.

When a Twilio number is provisioned for your use, you will need to decide how to handle incoming SMS messages and voice calls. Dispatch offers a couple of mechanisms to easily handle these incoming messages/calls, but you can also elect to handle the responses yourself.

Claridge was born in Los Angeles County, California. At the time of her appointment, women were primarily desired as police radio dispatchers because LAPD psychologists thought that women's voices would have a more soothing and calming effect over the airwaves. The idea was that, should an officer (male) have been pinned down by gunfire and/or wounded, yet was still within radio contact, hearing the female dispatcher's tone would help keep the officer from panicking until back-up arrived at the scene. Her husband was an LAPD motorcycle officer.

For a time from the late 1960s into the late 1970s, Claridge was a voice actress credited with primarily providing police dispatch voice work for Adam-12 and also a few other television shows (i.e., Dragnet, Lou Grant and Columbo). Her voice work as the police dispatcher ("1-Adam-12, 1-Adam-12, see the man . . .") was featured in all but three episodes of Adam-12 (Elegy for a Pig, Hollywood Division and Clinic on Eighteenth Street). She was seen onscreen once in her role as a dispatcher in the fifth-season episode Suspended in which she has a brief conversation with Officer Pete Malloy (Martin Milner).

In the 1983 suspense/action movie Blue Thunder, starring Roy Scheider, Claridge's voice was again heard as an LAPD dispatcher in an uncredited role. She also voiced police dispatch in the 1970 Disney film "The Boatniks".

Communicate critical information to the right people at the right time with our solutions for enterprise dispatch management. Motorola Solutions technology connects instantly across devices and networks, keeping everyone informed while organizing a response, for proactive decision-making and thorough action plans.

I cant believe some of you guys are defending the dispatcher for her one line of dialogue. Mundane voice? Give me a break. She says her one line in the EXACT tone of voice EVERY single time. There's no excuse for that. The developers got lazy on her and gave her one line to say, period. Stop defending her.

Initial training is six months; all hands-on. Depending on their level of qualifications, dispatchers perform call-taking, fire/emergency medical services (EMS), and Criminal Justice Information services law radio. One level of dispatcher is trained to take emergency and administrative calls, and run clearances. The next level dispatcher can do the same, as well as law radio dispatch, fire/EMS paging.

Dispatching is not the only work that makes WestCO function. Heidi Trimble is a regional data specialist (as well as a former dispatcher, code enforcement officer and animal control officer). She works at WestCO and off-site for mountain agencies in a separately funded position.
