RUMC News and Announcements
We are beginning to transition to a single announcement email format, which
will begin coming out on Wednesday each week.
Called the Wednesday Word, this format will contain the news of the
combined congregations of RUMC and Calvary UMC.
If you are not already receiving the Wednesday Word, please email
office@resurrection and ask to be added to the list. IMPORTANT – You must
request to be added –we will not automatically add email addresses, even if you
currently receive the weekly announcement email on Thursday.
One Church or Two Churches—Town Hall
Meeting Scheduled
In view of this, the Administrative Council is recommending that
Resurrection begin to work toward a merger with Calvary to form a single
congregation. Such a merger would have
to be approved by each congregation in separate Church Conferences. That decision would be followed by a period
of discernment and conversation to mold the new congregation. The process is likely to take several
months. To begin the discussion,
there will be a town hall meeting of Resurrection immediately following worship
on Sunday, April 28. Please plan to
attend if you have questions or if you want to share your thoughts about such a
merger.
April Game Night
The monthly Calvary/RUMC game night is Saturday, April 20 at 6:00 pm at the home of John Graner. The address is 5304 Middleton Road in Durham. Play favorite games and learn new ones, enjoy good food, and get to know your church family members better! We hope to see you there!
Third Sunday Lunch
A new tradition at Calvary/RUMC is lunch out following worship on the 3rd Sunday of each month. Join us on Sunday, April 21 following worship for lunch at The Tavern, located at 1900 W. Markham Avenue in Durham. We will continue the Easter celebration with fellowship and good food. Hope to see you there -- invite someone to join you!

Ongoing Hurricane
Relief Need
Our Conference Youth have challenged
all NC United Methodists to join them in reaching a major goal to benefit NC
Hurricane Relief. Here is how they describe the challenge in their own
words:
"In early September 2018, Hurricane Florence battered North Carolina communities. By the middle of September, the youth of the NCCUMC accepted a challenge to raise $500,000 for storm recovery by June 2019. By November 2018, our youth raised over $40,000. With the generous matching of the NCCUMC, the storm relief offering reached over $80,000 in just a few weeks. We are overjoyed with the generosity of God’s people, and we are accepting by faith that we will reach our goal of $500,000.
The conference is matching our gifts dollar for dollar. If you put in $5, it becomes $10 and $10 becomes $20. Whatever you are able to give to this offering will go directly towards the recovery effort for people affected by Hurricane Florence across North Carolina. "
Our District Superintendent invites you and all Corridor District United Methodists to give to support this fund between now and Easter. If you would like to do so, you may make your check payable to RUMC, with Hurricane Florence Challenge on the memo line, and place it in the offering plate on any Sunday.
