Wednesday Word

Wednesday Word is the email newsletter that is published weekly at Calvary UMC.  If you would like to receive the newsletter, please email pathwa...@calvarync.org and ask to be added.  Both Wednesday Word and the regular Thursday email announcements from RUMC will continue for a few weeks.  Be sure you don’t miss out on anything—sign up to be on both mailing lists!

CARVE and Githens Contributions

We will continue to support the Urban Ministries Food Pantry, joining with Calvary in their ongoing gifts to this ministry.  There is a basket under the prayer table where you my leave your gifts on any Sunday.  Our brothers and sisters at Calvary are accustomed to bringing their gifts on the second Sunday of each month, but RUMC folks who would like to continue the discipline of weekly gifts are welcome to do so.

The Serve Team also plans for us to continue supporting the students at Githens Middle School and will be working with the folks at Calvary to identify a place for collecting these items.  More information will follow.

Canning Memorial Service

Tom’s Canning’s life will be celebrated at RUMC on Saturday, February 9 at 11:00 am, and a reception will follow the service.  RUMC meant so much to Tom, and we hope everyone will come for the service.

Damascus Road Sunday School 9:30-10:30 Each Sunday

Damascus Road Sunday School IS meeting each Sunday morning at Calvary.  This class uses the Upper Room devotional guide as a curriculum, and everyone is invited to join them.  The new year is a great time to begin attending a class if you haven’t been doing so already.  If you have questions, Sandra Shepherd is the person to contact (information in the directory).

Stories of Divine Desire – New Study at Calvary

During this season of Epiphany, join us for Stories of Divide Desire, as we take a deep dive into the Luke-Acts narratives.  We’ll engage in different communal reading practices as we attend to the revolutionary work of the Spirit in the book of Acts.  This study begins Sunday, February 3 at 5:30 in the education building.  See the attached flyer!

Everyday Grace Magazine Available in Narthex

Everyday Grace is a publication of the North Carolina Conference, and the new issue just arrived this week!  You can find this in the narthex — there are several copies, so please borrow, read, and return for the next person to read.  According to the conference website, “In Every Day Grace, discover the stories that unite us in our everyday experiences of life where, in the midst of it all, there is grace. Some of the topics to be explored will include money, food, aging, young life, the modern family, rural life, urban life, and much more.”

Upper Room Available

The Upper Room devotional guide for March and April 2019 is available in the narthex in both regular and large print editions.  If you have set a goal to have or continue a daily devotional time in the New Year, these guides are a great resource!
