RUMC News and Announcements
We are beginning to transition to a single announcement email format, which
will begin coming out on Wednesday each week.
Called the Wednesday Word, this format will contain the news of the
combined congregations of RUMC and Calvary UMC.
If you are not already receiving the Wednesday Word, please email
office@resurrection and ask to be added to the list. IMPORTANT – You must
request to be added –we will not automatically add email addresses, even if you
currently receive the weekly announcement email on Thursday.
One Church or Two Churches—Town Hall
Meeting Scheduled
In view of this, the Administrative Council is recommending that
Resurrection begin to work toward a merger with Calvary to form a single
congregation. Such a merger would have
to be approved by each congregation in separate Church Conferences. That decision would be followed by a period
of discernment and conversation to mold the new congregation. The process is likely to take several
months. To begin the discussion,
there will be a town hall meeting of Resurrection immediately following worship
on Sunday, April 28. Please plan to
attend if you have questions or if you want to share your thoughts about such a
merger.
Food Needed for Drag Me to Church
Mark Hipps-Figg is coordinating food for the Drag Me To Church event scheduled for Saturday, April 27 from 6-8 pm. If you are able to bring or donate food, please contact Mark directly. Thank you for helping make this event a fun evening!
Community Meal
Our next Community Meal will be a potluck on Tuesday, April 30 at 6:00 pm. Please plan to come and invite others to join us for great food and fellowship! Our theme this month is Share a Dish and A Smile. We hope you will join us and invite friends to join us as well.
May Food Distribution
The monthly food distribution for May will be on Monday, May 6. Volunteers are needed to sort the food (beginning at 2:00 pm), and the distribution begins at 3:00.
Bible Study at Calvary
Pastor Chris leads a Bible study at Calvary on the second and fourth Thursday of each month. The class begins at 1:30 and wraps up around 3:00 pm. You will find the study in Room 204 in the Education Building. Although the current group is all folks who are from Calvary, RUMC folks are welcome and encouraged to join in!
Mother’s Day Flowers
You can order a small bouquet of flowers to be placed on the altar on Sunday, May 12 to recognize a mother or other special woman in your life. A donation of $5.00 or more is requested per bouquet, and volunteers from Calvary will assemble the bouquets. Funds raised will go to support the Matthew 25:19 ministry which provides financial assistance for emergency needs in the community. An order form is attached to this email and can be printed out and brought to church on Sunday (or mailed to Calvary UMC, 304 East Trinity Avenue, Durham, NC 27701) with payment (Mother’s Day flowers on the memo line). Forms will also be available at church on Sunday. The deadline for orders is Sunday, May 5.
Prayer List
Please
continue to let Sandra Shepherd know of changes and updates to the prayer
list. RUMC prayer requests are being
combined with the Calvary list, and the list will be published in the Wednesday
Word each week. The current RUMC prayer
list is at the bottom of these email announcements.
