The system (ASAS v1.7.3) runs 24/7 and on full overdrive during dark hours to maintain all systems and to defend the site. Despite being connected to all systems, ASAS is unable to operate the Reactor Core, Mutation Machine, or any emergency systems. ASAS can also operate the facility's disinfection turrets and announce emergency alerts throughout the facility's monitors, going hand-in-hand with his ability to issue Color Codes throughout different events.

Throughout all events, ASAS will announce various things happening within the facility at the time. He will also highlight evacuation zones and typically speak throughout the entirety of most events. During the Zombie Outbreak event, ASAS will be taken over by the military and announce things typically counter-intuitive to the player's survival. During the Warhead event, ASAS will be replaced entirely by the Pre-Recorded Announcement System, a collection of recordings prepared for that specific event. In multiple endings, you will hear ASAS' voice speaking to you, although this is not the AI itself talking. Rather, this is Limbo Master talking to the player utilizing his voice.

In the oldest builds of the Thermal Plant, different AI voices would announce for the facility. Along with these, announcements from Black Mesa and Pinewood Computer Core were also in the game. After this phase, the current ASAS voice was made the standard voice for the intercom. As time went on, more and more announcements were added to the game; along with the Mainframe. The Mainframe has remained relatively unchanged since its initial construction, with the exception of smaller details being added; such as the Minigun Salesman with the Zombies & Disinfectors update. In 2023, Kylealta requested his announcements to be removed from the game, making ASAS the sole announcer for the facility. This is with the exception of the Zombie Outbreak and Warhead events, and the rare announcement from the Site Director himself.
