Votada favorablemente Ley Europea Restauración Naturaleza

Enhorabuena a todos, sin lugar a dudas esta nueva Ley afectará de forma positiva a la restauración ecológica y, en consecuencia, a los egresados del Máster U. en Restauración de Ecosistemas.

Es más, me atrevo a afirmar que este Máster ha puesto sus buenos granos de arena para que la Ley fuera aprobada (por ejemplo, las cartas de los científicos y de las organizaciones conservacionistas, entre otras). Entre todos, hemos tenido un impacto.

Miembros de la red de restauración-AEET y restauración de minas. Hoy el Parlamento europeo ha aprobado una propuesta de ley de restauración. Esta es la parte buena, y desde el sector de la restauración y de los numerosos colectivos que hemos apoyado la propuesta (+6000 científicos, +1,000.000 de mensajes y firmas) debemos felicitarnos. La parte mala es que la propuesta no incluye agroecosistemas (y la restauración de turberas que se contemplaba en el Artículo 9), desaparece el compromiso de no-deterioro, y otros recortes sustanciales. Esta es la propuesta que el Parlamento llevará ahora a los trílogos, para confrontarla con las de Consejo (aprobó una versión más ambiciosa, aunque no de forma unánime) y Comisión (que preparó y presentó la propuesta). Esta fase también puede ser una oportunidad para recuperar la ambición de algunos artículos, el grado de vinculación jurídica y la coherencia del conjunto.

After a very long an emotional day, oh behalf of the core coalition, we would like to thank you all for the participation and support to the #RestoreNature campaign so far! 💚

 

Despite all the efforts made by the conservatives to reject this law from the beginning, the Nature Restoration Law still stands alive and that is greatly thank to you all and all your messages, tweets, letters, articles, statements, meetings with MEPs, media reactions, etc… It’s very impressive how we managed, along scientists, activists and 1 million messages and signatures, to make clear that there is no future, no food, no planet without nature.

WE MADE CLEAR WE NEED TO #RESTORENATURE. So, let’s celebrate this today! It’s well deserved! 🎉🎊

 

BUT (there is a big but that needs to follow)…the fight is not over yet!! This was still a bitter-sweet victory, that we achieved at a very high cost.

 

A lot of the amendments that we really wanted to see in the EP proposal were rejected and some of the bad ones we would have avoided were indeed adopted (read more in our PR HERE , more specific analysis will follow in the next days), resulting in a very weakened law.

The position agreed today will be moved on to the trilogues, the next phase of the ordinary legislative procedure in the EU institutions; it means that representatives of the Commission, the Council and the Parliament will sit down to negotiate between their positions to agree on a final version of the law. This is going to be a delicate time, where we’ll still try to get the most ambitious version as possible of the NRL. So the fight is not over: we must make clear what has been lost in the process and try to secure what is still up to debate.

 

Let’s keep up with the good work and keep asking to #RestoreNature!
