Ibought Lightroom 6 sometime in 2017. Now my previous computer broke and lightroom went with it. Well, no problem, I thought, I can download it back from the creative cloud to my new computer. But now it turned out that it can no longer be downloaded. What are my chances now? Can I get compensation or a refund for something for I can no longer use the product I bought and paid for? I didn't get any notice that the download file should be saved to yourself, because adobe no longer offers it for download. What now?

Adobe can withdraw a product at its whim, (this right is clearly stated in the End User Licence Agreement (EULA) which you accepted when you bought) and unfortunately there's nothing we can do about it except move on.

What you are saying is that people are paying for nothing, because that "life of the software" is not known and is not specified anywhere at the time of purchase - they can as well shut it down in a day, month or in a hundred years - noone knows.

If you look at the software license for most apps and OSs, there is usually a paragraph in there that specifically says you get no guarantees as to how long it will be useful to you, and when you decide to use the software (therefore agreeing to the Terms), you agree to that. I just looked up the Terms of Service for an Adobe competitor who makes a photo app that is very affordable and non-subscription, and it uses this very common wording:

Having a 6.14 installer is one issue, however you may still have activate the software. Lr 6.14 will two activated units, if have two older units activated you will have to deactivate one to activate on a new unit.

The installer is 32 bits, the app itself is 64, which means it won't install on versions of Mac OS later than 10.14. You can try copying an existing installation to a newer version of Mac OS, which has sometimes worked for me. You'd also have to read this thread for details on how to active it without an Internet connection, since Adobe's activation service is no longer up.

Furthermore, if the OP (or anyone) can find a copy of the Lr 6 installer file (like from a fellow photographer or local photography club), there's a good chance that you can still install it and use it on Windows and on older Mac operating systems.

Hello Adobe Community. I know I'm a little late in 2024 with the question about Lightroom 6. I have an old IMac on which I can't install the latest macOS and that's why I need Lightroom6 for that. When I wanted to download today I saw that it has no longer been available since 2024. Does anyone else have the .dmg for Lightroom6 on their hard drive? Thank you in advance Marcel

Hi dj_paige and thanks for the quick answer. I tried but get the following message when I click on the link: Starting with 12/31/2023, Adobe has ended support for downloading Lightroom 6.14. This means that you'll not be able to download Lightroom version 6.14.

Adobe makes it very hard to download more than the last two major versions (shame on them). You can still download LR CC 2015 / 6.14 from here (be sure to read "Very Important Instructions" above the table):

I think that download is for the free trial of the subscription Lightroom CC 2015.14. To convert it to the perpetually licensed Lightroom 6.14, see this archived help article (which has apparently been deleted from adobe.com, double shame on them):

Realise to late i should have upgraded last year as cant find a link for the patch/upgrade now. At the time didnt upgrade as program working fine and follow the principle if its not broken dont mess with it.

I was looking at your answer to installing Lightroom 6.14. I was trying to install on my new PC and was able to get 6.0 to install and it did one update. I didn't notice which version it said the update was but it would not read the Canon CR2 files newer than 2018 as 6.14 did on my old PC. I tried uninstalling then reinstalling but then it did not do any updates and still says 6.0 and will not read the new CR2 files. Adobe Creative Cloud say it is up to date. I did go the the link and downloaded the installer. Should I uninstall before trying the new installer?

I was able to import my catalog and all is working. Now I need to look my other problem. I had to signout/deactivate the version on my laptop even though it wasn't running. I'm not sure why as I had un-installed on my old PC before trying to install in my new PC. I probably needed to signout/deactivate before un-installing on my old PC. I couldn't see in my account that my old PC is listed as active. I hadn't run into that problem before when I originally installed on my old PC & laptop. Do you think I need to reinstall on my old PC then signout/deactivate or is there an easier way to keep the license active on my new PC as well as my laptop? So installed on both but not running on both at the same time which is allowed by Lightroom.

If you think your old PC is still activated, you'll need to contact Adobe support, unfortunately. They'll usually tell you they don't support LR 6, but insist that you have an activation issue and aren't looking for product support. You may have to end the chat and try someone else (perhaps a couple times), but you'll eventually get one who can help you with the deactivation.

To deactivate a unit you had to sign in to your Adobe a/c via the Internet. If a unit crashed, got lost, sold or stolen it would still show as activated in your Adobe a/c and it would necessitate contacting Adobe to deactivate.

Thank you, that worked for me. Adobe is becoming a restricted space aimed and an ivasive permanent subscription plan even if you have already purchased their product. I really wish there was an alternative.

While I can't say if Adobe will leave this in place for a few years (even though I think they should), the advice of saving a copy of the downloaded installer file is a good one that everyone should follow.

I did that. The installer works but Lightroom does not. Just avoid Adobe products in future. If enough people jump ship perhaps Adobe will change their policy and sell their software and provide better support. If sufficient customers move to alternative suppliers Adobe will either give up their coersive tactics or go bust.

Except it's pretty sucky when the only option is to go to a subscription-based software. I'd like to actually own and use the software I purchased. It's not old and unsupported by nature, they decided to stop supporting it so that your option is to subscribe instead of purchase.

Note that page only gives instructions about how to check your Adobe account, where the download may be available if you purchased the perpetual-licensed version directly from Adobe. If you purchased it elsewhere, it tells you to contact support otherwise (which has been a fruitless exercise for many people). The help page links to another page that used to provide a direct download of LR 6 but, as of recently, no longer does:

Update as of Sep 2020: I can confirm that Adobe chat works great. I was going through the process of changing computers and my perpetual product was fine on the old comptuer with Version 6.14, Camera Raw 10.1. But, when loading my CD to new computer I was of course back to 6.0 and then found that my camera RAW files were not recognized. Chat provided me a link and now all is back to normal. Thanks for your input!!

"And I am unhappy...."- You should not be!! you have had a pretty good run of years out of v6.0 (released 2015), and no one should expect software companies to update 'End of Life' software. Besides Adobe offer the DNG legacy support for free!

I am working for an organization digitizing a photographic archive. Here, we digitize photos using Nikon and Canon cameras, tethered to the computer and using Lightroom 6 to make and directly process the images. It is really important for our workflow to use tethered capture.

We would like to upgrade our Nikon cameras to the new Nikon D850. It is said though on the website of Adobe that tethered capture for the Nikon D850 is only supported by Lightroom 7.1. For budgetary reasons, we cannot make the update to the new version of Lightroom with subscription (Lightroom Classic / CC).

For both 6.13 and 6.14, Adobe announced "D850 Support". However, that support was limited to .NEF file support for raw files generated by the D850. As you have found out, tethered shooting with the D850 was not included in those releases.

My understanding is that your version of Lightroom 6.14 could run on your M1/Big Sur under the Rosetta 2(Intel based) architecture. To install Rosetta 2 on your machine requires "Creative Cloud" availability.

I the end - I'll go with you and say, hey, why didn't this stubborn Calvinist do that earlier? And about affordability: my mobility costs me a zillion more per month ? and cost per kilometre I don't even dare to think. Something like the subscription of LR-Classic every day?

Adobe announces all of its upgrades, which occur monthly. Sites like Adobe.com and dpreview.com cover the updates. The great part about Adobe is that I never get endless emails about their products. Contrast that with Topaz. I made the mistake of buying Topaz AI Sharpen. The plug-in is great, but I got inundated with emails from Topaz to the extent that I had to unsubscribe from them. Adobe does not treat your purchases from them as a marketing opportunity.
