The Marcellus story on NPR’s This American Life
Why has Pennsylvania welcomed the gas industry’s presence with open arms when other states have a moratorium in place? Why have all the leading shale states except PA implemented a severance tax or environmental impact fee to help mitigate the cost of damages left in the wake of this industry? What happened here in PA to change the game?
This radio program answers those questions with details and facts that may shock you, as host Ira Glass and producer Sarah Koenig explain how and why the gas industry and the state of PA speak in such a unified and well-scripted voice.
For anyone seeking to understand the scope of the relationship between the research, the gas industry, and the government – this program provides the foundation for understanding the historical truth and the present reality.
There has been other gas news in the headlines this week. To publish it here would be to risk diluting the single most important news to emerge over the past 7 days.

The RDA Board of Directors extends a big “Thank You” to Atticus and Sylas Kohr of Williamsport. The two brothers set up a lemonade and snack table and donated over $100 in proceeds from their sales to the Responsible Drilling Alliance. We appreciate their thoughtfulness and concern about the future of their home state and are honored they chose our non-profit organization. We will continue to do all we can to work towards a future where these children and all Pennsylvania youngsters can grow up in the safe, healthy and beautiful environment we know and love. Thank you, Atticus and Sylas!
