Thearea is closed to vehicles from 19:00 until 03:00.[4] Car and motorcycle parking is provided at the Bali Hai end. Although the closing time of the bars and clubs is officially 04:00, some stay open later illegally.[5]

Before its establishment, Walking Street was primarily a roadway for Pattaya's fishing industry when it was a fishing village. In the 1960s and 1970s, the area switched to providing services for soldiers from the United States Armed Forces on rest and recuperation breaks in Pattaya, resulting in the development of hotels, bars and restaurants on Walking Street, which was then referred to as "The Strip". During the 1980s, The Strip saw the development of cabaret performances and discotheques. In the 1990s, several car accidents on The Strip led to the Pattaya City council to close the street to vehicles after 6 p.m, leading to the area to become known as Walking Street.[6]

A large video sign was erected in March 2010 at the Beach Road entrance. The street has numerous bars, restaurants and attractions which advertise using bright large neon signs. Pattaya authorities began cracking down on oversized signs in 2015 in an effort to improve accessibility on Walking Street for emergency vehicles.[7]

Following the COVID-19 pandemic, the amount of venues oriented towards Westerners decreased and shifted towards other areas in Pattaya, whilst venues oriented towards South Koreans and Russians increased.[8] In 2023, Thailand began seeing a surge in Indian tourists, who were granted visa exemptions from 10 November 2023 to 10 May 2024.[9] This surge led to an increase in the development of Indian-oriented venues in Walking Street.[8]

In addition to a large number of institutions offering sexual entertainment, a significant number of prostitutes, both girls and gay men, work on the street. Although prostitution in Thailand is illegal, there are estimated to be 27,000 prostitutes working in Pattaya, many in Walking Street.[11]

In 2016, Thailand's first female Minister of Tourism, Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul, announced that Thailand was "closed to the sex trade" following adverse coverage in foreign media.[13] In Pattaya, the aim was to push prostitution back to beyond Second Street, leaving the areas near the beach a family-friendly tourist area.[14] Although there have been many police raids and crackdowns,[15] the sex trade continues in Walking Street.[14]

Due to efforts in the 2010s through to the 2020s to shift Pattaya away from sex tourism and towards venues which are more family friendly, there have been several ideas by the City Council to redevelop parts or the entirety of Walking Street.

In 1998, 101 buildings on Walking Street were targeted for demolition due to them being seen as encroaching on public land, as shown in a report by Japan International Cooperation Agency. The plan did not go through due to the impact it would have on Pattaya's tourism industry. The issue of these buildings encroaching on public land resurfaced when a royal decree on land expropriation issued on 17 April 2014 confirmed the findings of the 1998 report. In May 2016, Silapakorn University was hired by the City Council to come up with plans to solve the issue of encroachment on public land. A public hearing on 6 October presented four plans which called on the removal of differing amount of buildings on Walking Street.[16]

A walk down Pattaya Walking Street can be an incredible experience. The neon lights and colour, music and noise, performers and people, food and odours, and everything else about this kilometre long road will dazzle you.

The distance from Central Pattaya to Walking Street is about 1.2 miles (2 km). To get here, you can either walk along the beach or take a shared open-air tuk-tuk (songthaew) that takes rounds of the city.

The Walking Street in Pattaya has excellent food options. In addition to open air food stalls, the street also has well-established restaurants that specialise in sea food. Some of these have dining areas that look out across Pattaya Bay, making them a great place to enjoy a meal while taking a break from the hustle and bustle.

Though the matches are partly staged and not as vicious as the real thing, they are still fun to watch. You can even step in the ring to test your boxing skills and get photographed with the boxers (a tip will be expected).

Whether you visit with your partner or alone, touts will approach you and ask if you would like to watch a sex show. They will be carrying a menu with women on it. Even if you are curious, going for a sex show is a bad idea. You will most likely be ripped off. People fall into this trap and regret it.

Pattaya Off-Road Safari is the new home for guided off-road ATV, Buggy and Enduro bike tours, located on 22/6 Moo 6, Pong, Banglamung Chonburi Thailand 20150. We offer daily ATV, Buggy and Enduro guided tours that are entirely off-road with both beginners and experienced riders made welcome by our professional and friendly staff.

Our ATV and Buggy scheduled tours depart daily at 10.30am and 2.30pm; each tour lasts 2 hours and is almost entirely off-road. Booking a scheduled tour means that you might be joined by other riders for that tour, however we can usually accommodate just you and your group for a private tour, depending on availability.

Passenger price for our 2 seater Buggys is 990 Baht, however passengers ride for free in our family buggy. Please Note: Minimum passenger age is 5 years old and small children must fit securely in the fitted safety harness.

The trails you will ride upon are 90% off-road and 100% pure insane fun! Riding over deep baby powder sand trails, hard pack mud trails and rutted dirt roads, through pineapple, tapioca, palm oil, eucalyptus and rubber tree tropical plantations and coconut jungles, through beautiful farmlands and high hillside tracks with amazing views! We even have a small yet very scenic 40 foot waterfall to cool down under during the rainy season!

All of our ATV Quad bikes and Buggy Karts are automatic and incredibly safe and easy to drive. We have two epic tours on offer which both run twice daily. The first tour is our Fun Tour which is aimed at riders who are new to Off-Road Quad biking or perhaps have only ridden a few times. This tour is perfect for absolutely everyone to join in and enjoy with no prior driving required!

Our second tour is the 34km long Ultimate Tour which is for those riders who already have some prior ATV riding experience as the epic tracks and trails we take you on during the Ultimate Tour are more technical and challenging. You can also upgrade both the Fun Tour and the Ultimate Tour to be a VIP private tour for those who want to ride alone in a small group with their partner, friends or family.

Both our Fun Tour and Ultimate Tour lasts approximately 2 hours and along with the safety briefing, kitting up, practice track and post tour meal the entire adventure is around 3 hours. If you're short on time we also have Fun and Ultimate 1 Hour taster tours available.

We start both the tours with a professional safety briefing and thorough driving tuition. We will then guide you through our onsite practice track that is used to get a feel for the ATVs and Buggies. By doing a few laps winding through the banana field plantation, crossing coconut trees, rocks and swamp bath obstacles you will be fully prepared for the terrain ahead as we venture out onto the trails where the real off-road adventure begins! When you return to our ATV base you will most definitely be hungry and we provide you with a sumptuous big deluxe, beef, chicken or veggie burger, fries, salad and fruit platters along with free flow soft drinks in our Thai Sala garden. Full amenities such as showers, towels and secure lockers are provided in our changing rooms for those who would like to freshen up.

Our entire fleet of ATV's and Buggies are powered by LIQUI MOLY! If you want the best engine oil, lubricants in your ATV, UTV or bike you can drop by ATV & Buggy Adventures any day from 9 am to 6pm 365 days per year!

One of the highlights of my trip to Thailand. Everyone was super friendly, from the gentleman picking us up at the hotel, to the ladies helping out with gear and food afterwards, everything was excellent. Our tour guide was very professional. Richard Y September 04, 2017

Great day out for our family - we loved it! The ATVs were bigger and more powerful than I'd driven before but easy to use, well maintained and more than able to deal with the tracks. David H. August 22, 2017

The year-round heat and humidity of Pattaya must be taken into account from a running perspective. Average high temperatures are in the 30-32C (86-91F) range year-round, and nightly lows rarely dip below 24C (77F). There are distinct wet and dry seasons, with little rainfall December-March and abundant rainfall May-October (especially September-October!).

This is a major tourist destination, so there is an abundance of lodging of nearly any stripe. From a running perspective, try to stay within a km or so from the Pattaya Beach or Jomtien Beach waterfront roads/paths.

Hi there, I walked past the new Best Supermarket this morning, I noticed that it officially opens tomorrow Sat April 20. It's opposite the Susco servo between Sois 25 and 27, It's over the road from where I live. So that will be less stress on my old legs.

I quit using the North Pattaya Road Best a long time ago - no place to park. It used to be you could park on North Road fairly close to Best entry door (not many spaces, but I usually found at least one available). Then they made it no parking for that whole area of North Road near Best. The very few parking spaces behind Best were almost always full, so I gave up on shopping there.

The old place had been there decades and had the local feel that's fast disappearing in Pattaya. New place is upscale and gentrified. Not sure how great the new location really is. On the corner and across from T21 was prime.

Everywhere in Naklua is being knocked down to build top of the range hotels, especially on the Wongamart side of Naklua Road. I'd say Best Supermarket along with the Peace Hotel were forced to go. Maybe the offer was to good to knock back. Give them a month as it's been one hell of a job to move all their stock. I'm sure things will change once things are settled down. One up side is the new shop has a superb alcohol section.
